Putt - sorry to hear this. I know exactly how you feel vis-a-vis QOL issues, I've reached the point where I no longer see the benefit of some of the treatments they are giving my mother for her lung cancer. It's a brutal journey, can't imagine being on it with my spouse. Bless you.

As a person who lacks in the area of "hope" I read this post about a son/father......they are less than a year into their journey and hope/science/facts/belief etc....will all play a role in the future I'm sure.

If I had more hope and less acceptance these past 4 years I would be better off right now...The kid came here with a message of hope to help and maybe some needed confirmation because this is about his dad...his father that he obviously loves. I also read "one of the best days in my life"

They go to the Mayo Clinic and I'm sure they hear better feedback than moon is made of green cheese. I love and need this forum but 27 responses making sure he sees our great knowledge and possibly destroying his hope is disheartening.

Kudos to you kid...keep believing and don't stop going to the good doctors.

You know, I've been watching this thread since it's inception, and what I was hoping for is that we would congratulate thekid and his father for the successes achieved, and for the joy and enthusiasm this young man tried to share - and stay away from the narcissism and BS / biting remarks. Once again I was proven wrong. 


Nothing wrong with weighing in but really. . . . . .

To those that were positive in their posts, I simply say thanks. To thekid and Dad, congratulations and continued best!

And you're darn right there is an apology owed to thekid.

Glad you came here. Glad you told your story your way. Hope and pray your father continues to do well.

No one is a doctor or remotely a medical professional here. so I give your story the full benefit in your own words. Whatever is working, regardless of the combination of elements, its helping your father.

Don't let one rude poster run you off from here. Hope you continue to keep us updated on your dad's PC journey, and its good that you speak on his behalf.

Hi there,

Willie had some 'spots' on his shoulder blade, early on.
Because he was an ex-athelete, his doc stated it could be just arthritis.
That was just before his lupron started.
Next scan, the 'spots' were gone, totally.
That's when we knew he had very early bone mets because lupron makes mets disappear. It has no effect on arthritis.

Willie was eating whatever he wanted at that point, he ate a very healthy, well-balanced diet.

Kid, I am happy for you and esp for your Dad. Keep on keeping on and embrace each day. Like others, I think it's successful drug therapy ie Lupron. May it continue for a long time.

Thanks to those of you who offered words of encouragement.  I came to this site back in December after my Dads diagnois to gather more information about PC.  This site is very helpful to many people.  After my Dads recent results i was so exicited I thought i would return to the site to give an update.  I was going to give much more infomation in my post but i am so glad I didnt.  Im sure i would have really gotten alot more "tough love".  I have no ill will towards anyone who posted negative comments.  I have taken the weekend to think about it and it is very possible that the Lupron has caused the positive results.  However i also feel that the changes he made in his diet helped and will continue to help him for MANY years to come.  Peace and well being to you all.

Hi Kid, positive diet changes have numerous health benefits. We can all use them. I'm sure that a better diet is helping your dad tremendously with PCa and other potential health issues and will continue to help him in the future.

Hey kid, welcome back. I'm with davidg - positive dietary changes is flat out good for your health all the way around. Many studies report that men with PCa end up dying from a heart attack before the PCa would ever get to them - so it's all good.

As you have seen from the comments, this is an emotional site. We are all fighting for our lives. We are skeptical of cures because we have had our hopes dashed time after time. Treatments, drugs, and doctors opinions have failed many of us.

I am very happy for your dad. As has been stated, all zeros are good ones. My only caution to you is to never assume it is cured, and keep checking every 3 months on his PSA. That way, it won't sneak up on you.

Good luck on your journey. It is kind of like walking through a mine field. Be sure your dad is able to enjoy life. Make sure he does those bucket list things. As our friend Sonny says, Every day is bonus.

Thanks for checking back with us on your dad.  Regardless of how it came to be, that is GREAT NEWS!!!  Even if it was the Lupron that is a great response.  To give you some comparison, even after spot radiation, hormone therapy, xgeva, etc... I still have a spot or two show up on scan.  Be happy with the good news.

I think most of us here have a problem with the "c" word.  And, I'm not talking cancer.  It's the word "cure".  It's almost impossible to state for 100% fact that a guy is cured from prostate cancer.  Don't take offense to it, it's just what most PC guys are feeling...that feeling that we're only cured if we die of something else. 

In this setting I'm not sure what the treatment normally is.  Will your dad be on Lupron intermittantly or is this a continuous thing?

btw --- diet and exercise are very important for all PC guys. 

Honestly, don't hesitate to hang around here...it really is a great place for information and support.

He had 3 or 4 shots of Lupron (cant recall exactly).  He did not have a shot this last time.  He is scheduled to go back in 3 months to have his PSA level checked. I wish you all the best in your battle with this nasty disease.

Thanks for your comments and insight. Question for you...when Willie first noticed his shoulder met, was there any pain in his shoulder? And if so, did the Lupron take care of the pain?

Cancer needs inflammation, glucose, and blood to grow.
  • Specific diets can reduce inflammation.
  • A low carb diet and fasting can reduce glucose.
  • A long list of foods are considered anti-angiogenesis. In other words, they can prevent new blood vessels from being formed to feed cancer cells.

It really bothers me that most doctors don't include diet along with medical treatment.
