Bleeding after biopsy

Had a quick question - I believe I've read on here that bleeding in the urine is common after a biopsy.  Maybe 2-3 weeks?  I had my biopsy two weeks ago tomorrow, and I'm still having bleeding.  But it hasn't been during urinating, but instead after I've done #2.  I'll notice some drops of dark red when I've finished.  How long should it keep doing this to the point I should be worried and call the urologist?  Thanks alot.

I should clarify that it is from urinating, but only the little bit after I've done #2.  Only once did it happen just from urinating alone - and that was the day after the biopsy.

That's not unusual, especially if the blood you are seeing is turning rather dark. Blood from the biopsy tends to pool in the prostate. It'll be reabsorbed in a couple of months or you can work through it by frequent ejaculation. Two weeks after the procedure it should be rather chocolate colored. It's not unusual for a bit to be squeezed out when you take a dump. If you run a fever, if it becomes painful or if it continues to show bright red (meaning you are still bleeding), then you should call your doctor (you can call anyway if you want.)

I would have expected bleeding from that end to have been resolved by now. But rectal bleeding isn't that uncommon and could be caused by so many things. My doctor told me that a drop or two can look alarming but not be a large concern.

Still, I think it would be worth a phone call to the Uro's office - to put your mind at ease if nothing else.

Andrew, I think the blood he is seeing is in his urine but he only sees it after he defecates. At least that is the reading on which my response was based.

yup - I got that. Rectal bleeding after a bowel movement at this point could be from the holes left by the biopsy, an internal hemorrhoid, an anal fissure or some thing else. I've had a lot of bleeding from the back end do to hemorrhoids and the occasional fissure. One drop of blood can look like a lot on TP or in the bowl.

Let me tell you that after my biopsy, the hemorrhoid/fissure thing got out of hand for a few weeks and the blood in the bowl was alarming on a few days.

A short phone call to my doctor put my mind at ease about the situation and it all resolved a couple of weeks later.

That's what my response was based on.

I put out fluid that looked like motor oil gone bad for a couple of weeks, so would not be surprised.

However, one thing to keep in mind is that you should call the doc with any and all questions while on this roller-coaster. We can only tell you what happened to us. Your care is the doc's responsibility.

Wildcat, I am currently having the same problem along with an infection. I saw the uro-doc today and he said that dark blood dripping from the penis after a bm is not cause for concern. It could take a month or so to clear. He did give me some med samples to ease the discomfort. However, if a fever develops, definitely see your doc.

Yeah - Wildcat, I'm seeing that too. I'm 5 days post-biopsy here and just a little "light cranberry colored" blood at the very start when I urinate. Except after bowel movement - no blood in stool, but a few drops come from the penis. Bright. Red. Blood. Using a stool softener and trying not to strain too much...

That same think lasted a month for me... it'll clean itself up.
