New Trimix script ( joined the club last night )

Finally called the URO office for a Trimix script. They told me to call them back when I had script in hand, I did and they set me up with an apt next week in early AM. I kinda protested as it was on one of the week days my wife works, but it was only time slot available.

I've picked up some good info here concerning proper use of Trimix. My script I believe calls for .1 ml and I plan to ask to start at .05 ml because I don't want to have to come back 4 hrs later. Being a newbie, is he gonna give me my first injection or supervise me injecting? Also I've read that it goes a bit easier with a semi erection, don't know how that would be possible in a clinical setting. It's a large practice with several doctors and usually 20-30 people in waiting room, don't envision myself walking in with my VED in a bag??

Anyhow any wisdom from those who have been there, done it would be appreciated.

If it goes the same as mine you will already be carrying a bag with a cold pack and your vial and syringes in it. (He will use your bottle for your first shot.) You can put whatever you want in there. He will most likely do the first injection and he can hit the mark easily. You won't need the VED.

I'd defer to your doctor about the initial dose. He's probably prescribed a fairly light mix for you to start with and 10 units (0.1 ml) is probably a sensible starting dose.

The prescription is most often written to a standard number. The law requires that there be physician instructions, but mine told me to ignore that, as the "prescribed" quantity was to provide the math for the system to determine the "days supply" that the insurance requires.

When you take the trimix in, you'll be carrying it and a couple of syringes (I was told to bring two so we could go through the needle change process that is needed because of the way the syringes are packed by the pharmacy) in a case of some sort with a cold pack, so you're already "sack in hand" as it were.

The doc will likely suggest a smaller number to start, then some increment to increase by if needed. My prescription says .2, we started at .1. I only left the office once things began to subside. I tried .11, then .12 with improving results. When I got to .13, it was ER visit time. I backed off to .1 as my acceptable number.

Discuss the number with him, and be sure you are on the same page.

My uro has the patient give himself the first shot. He explains it, but you have to show you can do it.

Rich, my first trimix injection was done in my urologist's office with a PA doing the injection. He didn't plump up my penis for the shot and I got a slight swelling with the light dose he injected. I don't recall the dosage but I think it was about 5 units. It's important to start out with a very low dosage because no one knows just how one's body is going to react to the medicine.

Fortunately or unfortunately, I was to slowly ramp up to 95 units and still didn't get a usable erection (no worries about priapism - didn't ever have to use the Sudafed). When I started doing the injections myself, I used the VED to get a bigger target to inject into. Now, after a year and half of injecting trimix, I don't use the VED anymore because I know where to inject, even with a smaller target to hit. I'm more of a pro at injecting trimix than I ever wanted or expected to be. But at least now the injections produce the desired result.

My URO used his bottle of the magic juice.... He did the injection and then left the room telling me to think of something that would help arouse me...

Well, my appointment date finally came for my URO and new Trimix script. Not what I was expecting at all. 1st off I was told to make this apt after I had picked up script from pharmacy, which I had.

The doc finally comes in exam room and hand me a script, I told him I already had script and picked up. He apologized for confusion and excused himself while he went to get me Trimix pamphlet that would explain correct, "sticking". I did go over dose age. My syringes are 29 gage, 1/2 inch and hold 1.0 ml which is what my script had called for. He suggested maybe starting at 0.25 cc then move up to 0.55.

I'm thinking, 0.25, then 0.30, 0.35 etc. Am I on the right path with increasing slower than he suggested.

Having spoken to the URO I can now say with certainty 98% of what I've learned about administering Trimix I learned here at HW.

So your first jab will be at home? Unusual, that. Or did I misunderstand?

What does your pamphlet say about an erection lasting more than 3 or 4 hours? You might want to have some Sudafed (Pseudoephedrine HCL) on hand just in case. You can titrate the dose as slowly as you want to. For some guys it is finicky for others there doesn't seem to be such a thing as too much. It mostly depends on whether you have a venous leak.

You were right, first jab at home. The visit seemed a waste of time and money. There was a similar pamphlet that came with the script, doesn't make much sence that the office told me to make apt to come in after I had script in hand??

Anyhow I plan to begin my journey this weekend, still need to pick up some sudafed, achohol swabs & a pint of liquor before I get started. turn

My bet is that there was a screw up and they hadn't scheduled you to tie up one of his procedure rooms for two hours so he cut you loose with a pamphlet.

But it's not rocket surgery. You'll do fine.

If your pecker falls off you will be in great shape to sue him... but I'd keep the sudafed handy.

Memories...like the corners of my mind...lol

10 weeks after surgery and the day I had found out my 10 week post surgery PSA was a 4.49 I went down the hall to see ED doc and was administered 10 units at 50% solution of trimex...his notes go on to say "Patient had tremendous pain after - gave 2 doses of 1000 mcg of phenylephirne - patient will be started on injection therapy using bi-mix instead of tri-mix on 10 units..." I think it also wasn't the best day after finding out surgery probably failed to be sticking needles down there. I didn't even have a significant other...I think I was trying to leave there with something to hold onto (get it)...

If anyone is reading and have not had that first shot, maybe ask the doc or tell the doc last time you had an erection...I think my first hurt in part because I didn't use the pump I was told to get and din't take the 100mg of viagra every day as doc suggested for rehabilitation...

It worked at home but I only injected 3 times....I was single at the time so would hide myself in the bathroom and not even tell the the woman what I did...it was a little crazy...I can see going through this with a loving wife or committed relationship of some kind, but not one night stands...lol...happy trails everyone...

Depending on the strength of your Trimix, 0.25 cc (25 units) sounds a bit high as a starting point. I started at 0.1 cc (10 units) and had problems. Currently, I use 0.03 cc (3 units). 25 units would send me to the ER.

It sounds to me like his doctor has given him a scrip for the watery starter-mix. With that stuff .25 isn't an unreasonable starting dose.

We had a thread where we talked about the various strengths of Trimix a bit more than a year ago. Here it is: www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=35&m=2436627

The table that Jeff (Worried Guy) made for us is a bit wobbly (due to the tragedy of non-monospace fonts) but it is basically a table with four columns for Trimix Single, Trimix Double, Trimix #3 and Quadmix. The rows are the four drugs. (The last column, technically, isn't Trimix).

Your mix isn't exactly like "standard" but it's close. For the most part the 'strength' of a mix is the amount of Alprostadil -- it's the strongest of the drugs. The mix I use has 20 micrograms per ml. Yours has 5.6. The reason men go to stronger mixes is so they can inject less volume and to save money by getting more jabs per vial. Your mix is good for newbies and for men with good venoclusion who don't need as much of the drugs as we leakers require.

Good luck. Your plans for your dose titration sound about right to me.

Thanks for all the great feedback & advice. I think I'll start at either 0.10 or 0.15 just to be on the safe side. Really don't want to make unexpected trip to ER. One of the side effects of our condition it seems to me is a loss of any modesty & dignity we might have previously had. A trip to ER and being treated for a four hour woodie by a 1st yr resident & audience would almost put me over the edge at this point. shocked

Although the doc recommended starting at 25 units I decided to start with 10. Had a stiff drink while I let med reach room temp in syringe. Excused myself and went up to bathroom to prepare, as I flinch when I get a flu shot, I decided I wasn't going to make a big production and stuck it on first attempt after I had prepared the target location, it stung slightly when it broke skin but I was surprised needle went the rest of the way in pain free. I had read to inject slowly taking 5 seconds but I kinda freaked out and did it in 1-2 seconds pain free. I did follow directions and held the alcohol swab on for 3-4 minutes afterwards, during this period my wife hollered up to see if I was ok, ( I think she though I'd pass out if I went thru with it). While I has holding swab in place it began to work.

I had explained I was starting out with low dose and going to work slowly upwards to avoid obvious potential problems, and the 0.10 might not do anything.

We were both pleasantly surprised how well the 0.1 worked. I'm six months post op, we've been trying various different methods since I was 1.5 months post op with varying degrees of partial success, however last night was the best night I've had since the good old days. I'm thinking I might go up to 11 units next time but if reaction is similar probably that will be my benchmark, if my math is correct that gives me 168-199 more doses off this one $54 dollar script. Trimix is my new BFF

Rich, I'm glad to hear that the trimix is working for you! And congratulations on getting success on your first poke with the syringe! That first stab on your own is the toughest one because you never know how it's going to feel until you've done it. You've got that first one out of the way and it's going to get progressively easier the more you do it. And you're using caution to find the right dosage for you - a wise choice to avoid unpleasant experiences with priapism. I predict you're going to be a trimix pro in short order!
