Gents
I was diagnosed with PCa on 12/3, a week ago today.
Key metrics:
Age: 50
PSA: 4.2
DRE: negative
Gleason: 3 + 3 = 6
14 cores, 2 tested positive; 5 % and 25 %, respectively
Family history: Father had PCa, dx at age 53. Died of non-related causes at age 71.
General health: Excellent; active runner, play in men's ice hockey league
My urologist has described my options as such; surgery to remove prostate, radiation, or Actice Surveillance. He didn't do a great job in hiding his preference; based on my age and projected life span, he thought surgery was the route to take.
He did tell me, however, that my numbers support AS as a viable option, based on John's Hopkins criteria.
Since this all started (biopsy test, waiting on results, etc) I've done a lot of research, and holy cow that surgery looks like a tough road to travel. As such, at this time, I'm inclined to give AS a try; if it's managed properly, I think I stand a puncher's chance of being able to react appropriately if my metrics go south i.e. PSA leap and / or Gleason escalation.
I'd like to close with saying that I've been "stalking" this site since my biopsy, checking in to get myself educated as I waited for results.
I'm in awe of the courage I've seen on display on these pages, and not just from the guys with the PCa, but also from their significant others.
thanks for listening. Advice, opinions are certainly welcome!!
GO RANGERS!!
