56 yr old male and been two years since my prostatectomy and have not had natural erection since (note: have lost 1.5 inches in length & girth since operation). Only injections work but am considering implant to be more natural. Anyone with implant have advice regarding sizing, effectiveness, and pain?

Going with an implant is a huge step....if injections work for you then I would certainly stick with that route until it does not work for you anymore.
Just my personal thoughts.
Cheers,

Thanks Curt. That's the problem sometimes the injections don't and the unreliability is a mood/ego killer.

three cylinder? are you sure about that. As far as I am aware there are only two cylinder implants. The cylinders are inserted into your natural chambers (there are just two chambers). May be you meant 2 piece or 3 piece? which refers to whether or not there is a separate remote reservoir. Unless you have some condition that prevents the placement of the remote reservoir in your abdomen then the three piece is usually used. I have the AMS 700 LGX which is a three piece (two chamber) implant. If you want 100% reliable erections then the implant is helpful in this regard. I know from my own experience with ED before the RRP and total afterward, the fear of loss of erection and later the lack of one caused me some "mood/ego killing". So I think the implant route is an option. As for advise on how long to "stick with it" well that is up to you. I am happy with my implant and glad I made the choice, he ability to have an erection is assured. Of course, I would rather have natural erections but that was not an option.

Oh, you asked about sizing and pain too. Sizing, you don't have much choice other than selecting girth, the LGX comes in several girths and the other supplier Coloplast has girth choices that include some that are larger than the LGX. However the LGX upon inflation expands both in both length and girth while the Titan (Coloplast) expands girth only. I you were of a large size, especially girth wise, then the Titan might be a better option. Your flaccid length with the Titan would essentially be the same as inflated length.
As far as lengths, both units come in many length options and like I said you wont have much say in the length fit as you will be asleep when the measurement and insertion is made. Most surgeons will try to fit you to what they consider to be your full natural length. You can not just say you want to be this lengtht or that as too long or to short of implant will cause real problems. So, really you can only tell ,and maybe get, is the girth you want. Maybe this is TMI but I can tell you with the LGX I lost what I consider to be about 1" however after daily inflation exercises that the doctor will tell you about, I regained all my natural length back after about 6 months.
Pain, yes. It will be painful and at the very minimum I would say you would lose a week, but plan on two weeks hanging about the house. Most of the pain will occur while you are standing up. It will be allowed to heal for 6 weeks then your doctor will inflate it then you are on your on and unless you are extremely motivated it will be several more months until you are comfortable enough to have sex. At least that was my experience.

Thanks knotreel that was very helpful. You mentioned you regained your length after exercising...was that the result you are now what you were before cancer? Also, does it feel different having sex after implant?

I was using the VED for the last 3-4 years before the RRP so I could be off a little in saying it is "about" the same as my natural lenght but it is close enough. It is my opinion that whatever length you end up with will be effected by the surgeon and how well he fits you so if you do this find an experienced surgeon, for what I gather, results can and do vary. How does it feel? well that is not easy to answer as I think that there was some nerve damage done in my "nerve sparing" RRP. But it pretty much feels natural except for some numbness of the glans that I don't know if the inplant or the RRP caused. But even some numbness or lost of sensation it works very well, as above all erection was my main issue the erection

I recommend you go to a site called franktalk.org
The site specializes in all aspects (mental, physical, treatment types, etc) of Erectile Dysfunction. One of the discussion groups they have is "Implants"
You will find a wealth of knowledge there

Sticking with injections until: 1) they don't work any longer OR 2) natural erections have returned and I don't need the injections any longer.

I'll give you my personal take after trying pumps, pills and injections. I was seriously thinking about an implant, then I read stories from some guys who used them and had a lot of problems and pain. I don't think the negative results are sufficiently talked about. So I went back to the pump and discovered I'd been using them wrong. Take a look at frank talk, I really like the vacurect system but other systems will work too. You just have to be very patient in learning how to use them.
