I'm 2 weeks post RP divinchi style. And have 2 questions

1. After two weeks is dull pain in the abdomen area and slightly bloating feeling in the same area normal?

2. When they remove the catheter Monday is that painful?

Like RichP said, yes its normal and no it won't hurt.

Don't forget to take a large capacity incontinence undergarment with you on Monday -- some guys are dry when the hateful thing comes out but most leak at least some. A few, such as I, leak like an open faucet, especially at first. Buy a pack of Depends-type pull-ups. Hopefully they'll be more than you need and you can donate the unused part of the pack to a local relief organization (a food bank, etc.).

All normal and getting the cath pulled sounds alot worse than it is, you will barely feel it. Just relax and let it happen. Believe me the relief of getting that thing removed is so worth it.

Good advice on the undergarments. Depends are good, I used Sir Dignity briefs for 8 weeks during the day and now use Depend guards. Do your kegals and walk, but also rest and heal

Bloating? Absolutely! Having the catheter removed sounds a lot worse than it is. In fact, you will virtually feel nothing. Just take it easy for the next 4 weeks or so and don't overdo anything. Good luck!

Iceman! Great to hear from you! I know a bunch of us were praying this past Friday, the 13th, and it sounds like it turned out ok. I felt like I had set the world record for situps in my abdomen. It will subside soon, as will the bloating. My oldest daughter, who lives 200 miles away, had a baby the day before my cath came out and I was determined to drive up there to see them immediately after they pulled that dang tube. I showed up ready for a biblical flood so I could make that drive even if I had no control - Depends (Manpers!) and pads. It all turned out fine. Have you gotten you pathology report?

Great to hear from you. Sound like a pretty normal if not annoying post op. Don't worry about pulling out the Foley. Remember when they took out the drain before you left the hospital? The Foley is much easier and you will also feel better for losing you companion for the last two weeks.

Yeah, removing the JP drain took the steam out of me. Felt like I was having bowels removed.

The cath literally fell out, the nurse cut the balloon branch, and the floods of Noah cascaded on the exam room floor. All over the room. No pain for me, but the cleanup was not pleasant. I put on a walgreens pant and heavy pad inside, almost made it the 16 miles home before I soaked the underpad I had the good sense to put over the car seat.

question 1: pretty normal, should resolve itself over time

question 2: I had the distinction of having to have 21 catheters, and not a one of them ever hurt coming out. Some slipped right out like an oily snake, and a couple of them, took a very minimal and painless tug to begin the process. thinking about it, is far worse than the doing it part. happens pretty fast. most important thing, if a nurse or doctor is doing it, is for them to allow enough time for the balloon portion (the thing that holds it inside your bladder) to fully deflate before starting to pull it out.

Most guys say that cath removal was essentially painless, but my cath removal was quite painful (but it was over in 3-4 seconds).

Not sure if this explains the pain that I experienced, but... My cath was removed while I was laying on my back and the nurse pulled the cath tube upwards (toward the ceiling) to remove it. Other guys say they were standing and gravity did most of the work.

removal on lying position, maybe nurse is new....., mine remove on the standing position, hmmm ...feeling ..of coz can feel when the tube is pulling out. Dun remember if there any pain...

i was more worried about the catheter than the op!! got myself so worked up about catheter coming out...it was out in a second. no pain at all. one deep breath. a little unpleasant. what a wally i felt afterwards as i had been clinging onto bed as nurse took it out.!!!

Similar to gedman, my first removal was a little painful but over relatively quickly. I was laying on my back and Surgeon pulled upward. Burned coming out and first urination burned - but nothing unbearable. I pulled the second cath myself from the standing position. Had a very slight burn but otherwise just had to deal with the heebeegeebeez of pulling something out of where it didn't belong.

To illustrate how mine was painless:

She had me breathe. I was standing up. I then asked when she was going to take it out.

It was already out.

Mikey72, thanks for the thoughts and prayers. The surgery ended up with complications. It was suppose to be an overnighter but ended up being four days in hospital. Surgeon fixed two hernias while he was in there. Also the re connection at the bladder leaked. Ended up two days later having 2 tubes placed in the kidneys to divert the urine away from the bladder so it could heal and seal itself. Ended up coming home with 4 bags attached. Catheter, 2 kidney bags, and the surgical drain. What a pain in the butt.

When I went for my post op visit my Uro had me lying flat when he took out the surgical staples but he had me stand up to take out the Foley. I guess he wanted a little help from gravity.

Boy, you didn't mention those complications at the start of this thread. I suspect that your bloating has a lot to do with everything that was done down there to you. Really sorry to hear that but you seem to be recovering well. I now have a sense why we might not have heard from you sooner after your surgery?
