How much time elapsed between biopsy and surgery?

When I was diagnosed and implored to "act now" I had a conversation with Mayo Clinic who told me they wouldn't do the procedure until at least 6 weeks elapsed after biopsy. Why?

For me, surgery took place exactly 6 weeks and one day from the biopsy. Are there advantages to waiting longer after the biopsy?

The only thing we have ever been told was to wait 6 weeks to allow the prostate heal after the biopsy.  That being said, my boyfriend had surgery with Dr. Samadi in NYC and his was 5 weeks after biopsy.  An opening came up and we took it.

Ditto on the healing part... The biopsy is a pretty traumatic deal for the prostate which causes inflammation and possible infection.

I had my surgery only 19 days after the biopsy. If I had waited, the one and only surgeon that I wanted wouldn't have been available for another 8 weeks. I just wanted it done and the cancer out ASAP--that's my personality. My surgeon checked me over well before surgery and said he thought I was good to go, so away it went.

Mine was about 8 weeks, would have to go back and check. I had an issue of finding a robot with available free time.

I was told that the time is to allow the rectum and tissue between the prostate and rectum to heal, so that the surgeon does not damage the rectum during the operation.

I was told to allow 6 weeks for healing also, after the biopsy. After my surgery, my surgeon said there was a lot of scar tissue left from the 3 biopsies I had over a 12 year period.

Not a lot can happen in 6 weeks between biopsy and surgery. Why not give your body a rest before the "Main Event".

Due to scheduling issues, I went about 9 weeks between biopsy and RALP.

My Surgeon said a minimum of 6 weeks before he would operate. This was to allow the prostate and rectum to heal and lessen the chance of infection after a saturation biopsy.

My surgeon wanted me to wait 8 weeks for prostate to heal. Due to my surgeons schedule I waited 12-13 weeks after biopsy.

I waited 11 weeks, I had a previously scheduled trip to Vegas that needed to be completed.

I waited about 8 weeks but that was because the way I scheduled it.  I don't recall the doctor saying anything about the need to wait.  Obviously he may have said something had I decided to schedule sooner.

Yep, I was told the same thing as you and many others. Wait 6 weeks for healing. I waited much longer and that I dont believe was a good idea for me.

If my memory serves me right I waited at lease 4 months for my surgery after being dx. I was dx G6 with 2 positives out of 12 so I figured I had time to enjoy my summer with my family down the shore before I went under the knife.

My surgery was about 11 weeks after the biopsy. The biopsy was in October and the surgery in early January so the three holidays in between probably stretched things out a little bit.

My early research made me comfortable that there was no need to rush. I was diagnosed in June, took two months to decide on treatment (surgery) then it took two months to get scheduled with the doctor I wanted. So four months (June 4 until Oct 2, 2013) from soup to NUTS (sorry!).

I did SBRT not surgery, and had a seven month gap between biopsy and my procedure.

I was diagnosed in Oct 2011, had another biopsy in December, decided on surgery in January 2012 and had it done in June. So, nine months.

My positive biopsy (my third) showed one positive core, Gleason 6 with about 3-4 percent involvement. (Upgraded to Gleason 7(3+4) on second opinion.) The fourth biopsy in December was negative.

I was considering AS and was changing jobs and there was a six month wait for the good insurance. If I'd known I was a Gleason 9 I wouldn't have waited so long.

Mine was six weeks. The Surgeon told me that the Prostate "sticks" to the rectum after the biopsy because the small wounds are healing. Surgery before six weeks risks the chance of damaging the rectum wall.

My wait was three months between biopsy and LDR brachytherapy. That provided more than ample time for healing, significant in-depth investigation of alternatives and reflection.

Three months wait for me as well (because of work commitments) - my doc said that for my case, the wait would make no difference to the outcome at all.

I heard that you should allow at least six weeks to allow time for things to heal, especially the area between the prostate and the bowel.
In my case I had the biopsy on 20th April 2009 and surgery on 29th July 2009, which I reckon was a gap of about 15 weeks. (I switched uros, my surgery was thus actually 6 weeks after I saw the second uro for the first time, so basically the surgeon did the operation in the first available slot after I told him I wanted surgery)
