Reporting in with good news on the Clinical Trial at the NIH “Phase II of Enzalutamide alone or in combination with PSA-TRICOM (aka Prostvac) in patients with Non-Metastatic Castration Sensitive PC”.. Well, we feel like we won the lottery, having our first visit to NIH Dec. 17th and getting in the vaccine arm B! Hoping our good buddy Sonny has the same lucky outcome Pill$$ and injections were begun that day. My second visit on Dec. 30th was more blood work and second vaccine injection.
Hotdog! In only two weeks, my psa went from 3.44 to 0.62! Those results were obviously from the Enzalutamide monotherapy which so far seems like a walk in the park compared with Lupron. It would be great if Xtandi can offer an alternative to Lupron earlier is this disease progression. We’ll have to wait and see if the Prostvac makes its contribution when the enzalutamide ends at 12 weeks.
My third appointment (an all day affair, once you are there) will be this coming Monday. It's rather exciting. I'll have some 15 flights from central Illinois to Reagan -cost covered. I’m already getting accustomed to the Metro (without my city slicker wife ) and a busy schedule. They put you through a lot, not to mention a lot of waiting. But hey, the first results look great and for someone still hormone sensitive, there's few opportunities out there like this. This trial will include some 34 men and I’m just #5. If you qualifiy and are interested, check it out. Maybe I can get a ‘finders fee’ of another month of Xtandi for each referral!! We will be happy try to answer any questions you might have. AND if anyone (Tall Allen, perhaps?) knows why Testosterone rises while on enzalutamide let us know. My T rose from 235 to 316 in 2 weeks??!
We are anxiously awaiting our GFMPH trip to Florida in March. Missing all my friends and excited about
meeting a bunch of new friends.

Previously......
here we go...
We're in Central IL.,
but traveled to Henry Ford in Detroit for robotic, have our local onc, but was visiting an onc in Chicago for over a year, traveled to Kansas City for a sensitive scan, now seeing Dr. Lam in Marina Del Rey, and now we're going to Bethesda MD. OK, so we like to travel!
A clinical trial for us finally: A phase II at NCI of Enzalutamide alone or in combination with PSA-TRICOM(aka Prostvac) in patients with Non-Metastatic Castration Sensitive PC.
We've done the various scans and required blood work over the last few weeks and we are headed for our interview (and more tests) this coming Tuesday (17th). If we are accepted, we start immediately. Arm A- just Enza. for 3 months or Arm B-Enza. in combination with the immunotherapy injections. Would prefer the combination but either would be more than insurance would pay for at this point.
I was on Lupron for over a year. Went undetectable, but after going off, psa began to rise rather quickly. Lam suggested adding Zytiga( w/ prednisone) to the next Lupron, but does support me getting into this trial.
PSA now at 3.26. The trial requires PSA to be at least 2 but not more than 20-either after surgery or radiation. Arm B will require quite a few flights there, but after our initial visit, they pick up the tab.
Anyone have any thoughts concerning trials or any suggestions. Has anyone been in a trial at NCI/NIH? Anyone else eligible for this trial? A buddy would be nice
