Hello and thanks for posting. I am not new to this site but I am to this forum. I recently was sent to a urologist by my pc doctor. He's is concerned with my psa creating up a bit. I had seen the urologist at My pc doc reccomendation. The urologist did a dre and found no concern. He said he will see me in 6 months to see what the psa does at that time.

When I initially saw him my psa was 2.6 ( I just turned 51 years old). 6 months later for my 2nd visit it was 4.6. My urologist then wanted me to schedule with them a truss needle biopsy. At that moment I opted to wait and redo the psa test in 4 months. I was not told to obstain from sex before the test.

In the mean time I have been researching several things. I have learned alot about not rushing into a needle biopsy when other methods are available without the obvious issues from needle biopsy. My question is this. So you all think I should pursue this new image guided MRI and biopsy first? I have located a place not far from where I live which has this technology. I really think a second opinion on the biopsy and what type of biopsy and or if an mri should be done first would be best.

I have read many places which has stated the guided MRI and then biopsy is the way to go. Would you wait like and take advantage of the latest technology which is available? I really don't want a truss needle biopsy after reading everything I have on the subject.

My next psa test is in late April. I totally changed my diet and will stick to it until test is done. I also plan on not having sex for a week prior to makes sure.
