I do not see guys reporting Free PSA numbers very often. Just Total PSA during their work ups. Why is that? I can understand using the total as a recurrence marker but seldom see guys reporting it with sub 4 ng/dl of total PSA or Total PSA readings even close to 4.

I'll check the archives too.

I had several fPSA done, first one was 10% then a week of antibiotics brought it up to 18%, then %20. Six months later down to 15% with a month of antibiotics brought it up to 20 or 21%. During the entire time my total PSA slowly increased.

wow antibiotics had an effect on Free PSA...........

I didn't do a free PSA before DX because I didn't know about it. In any case my PSA was rising fast enough that I made the decision for biopsy based on just the rise alone.

Don't know if I would have done that test if I'd known about it.

I did not get Free PSA before treatment.
After treatment, got Free PSA but it was outside a normal result since total PSA was low. Think it was 50% or something one time. Other time they said it was outside normal range and they did not report it.

I think mine was in that middle range (around 15%?) that tells one nothing useful. I'm not sure what the reference range of tPSA is on which % free PSA has been validated. I also don't know what effect bladder outlet obstruction has on it.

I'm still waiting (impatiently) for Beckman-Coulter to release PHI in the US. After FDA approval in June of 2012, they said "soon." Then in 2013, they said definitely by the end of the year. eyes
