Mikael ......
Please don't let concern turn into too much worry. If radium and either Casodex or Lupron have been his treatments so far, there are many other possibilities. Is the latest scan you mentioned a catscan, bonescan or both? And let's assume the scan does show that the PC is metastisized beyond the very small bone mets.
While a PSA of 15 may sound frightfully high, it is not. If this is metastisized (spread) cancer, a PSA in that area has potential for many treatments.
If your dad isn't going to an oncologist yet, he needs to consider that highly. The urologist will likely have some suggestions.
I have gone thru fairly typical treatments myself - since my PC returned and spread into my ribcage, liver, lymph node and formed blockage on both kidneys - over 3-years ago.
Please note ...... reactions to various HT or chemo treatments are NOT typical or universal. We all react differently to different treatments - and all we can do is try them under the guidance and direction of a good oncologist.
My most current chemo (over the past 19-weeks) is a pretty new chemo called Jevtana. Just before starting that chemo, I had a bonescan and a catscan - and a baseline PSA of 83.09! Now, after 6-treatments, my PSA was down to 15.49 ... or a reduction of over 80% in 15-weeks!
I think some of the important ways of dealing with advanced PC is having a positive attitude with a diet of enough protein and some excercise and enough activity for the mind and the body. Please see my attached signature for my history of treatments.
Please review any questions with your dad's oncologist and/or urologist.
