If you have a doc willing to write test request for PSA testing every 3 months you are in a good position for WW/AS.
Be consistent. There is ample evidence about
ejaculation and DREs affecting PSA. I throw in eating, lab
location, day of the week and time because those are things I can control.
I while back we had a discussion about
this and I read a paper which documented a patient that came in with PSAs that had been ~1 for a long time. Then they jumped to ~6, then ~1 then ~6, etc. . It was not prostatitis. The rise was traced to aggressive/enthusiastic sexual activities the night before the blood draw.
Even though I have no prostate, I still follow the same consistency rules. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I don't care. It makes a difference to my head.
Three months is not a long time. Start keeping track of your PSA. I have an excel program to compute doubling time if you want it. - there are numerous places on line to do it too.
All the stuff above is fact. Now I will give you my opinion and personal experience. I was never a candidate for AS: positive DRE, PSA 17.8, doubling time 139 days. 7 out of 12 positive biopsy with up to 70%. At 56 years old, I had no choice. I just did it.
I am almost relieved I didn't have a choice. I'm not sure I would have been brave enough to wait.
Now go back and check your calendar to see if you rolled in the hay the night before any of your PSA tests.
