If it's not too much of an intrusion, could you share your treatment history? My brother is in basically the same place as your history, facing GS9 with lymph involvement. It looks like your treatment is working very well.

My PSA test that DX my PCa was taken during a routine physical, no symptoms.

After my surgery, my path report showed a T3A aggressive tumor just starting to leave the capsule. What if my doctor was this Dr. Blackwelder who said "PSA test cause more harm than good"?

I have one of those free AARP man purses that I will bring to Sonny's to burn in his fire pit at next weeks GFMPH Florida.

All kidding aside, I DO carry a man purse, just not the AARP one, that one sucks. Mine is leather, lots of pockets for meds, wallet, etc.

Laugh all you want, they are pretty handy. I am in touch with my female side and I embrace it!!!

I will add my 2 cents to the others here in that my PCa was not palpable and because of the PSA , my PCa is stage 3 disease and know that I would have Stage 4 without PSA testing . James

I'll just add that I don't think very much of AARP's recommendations and they won't get any support from me.

Any other thoughts I have on that matter are too uncomplimentary to share ATM.

That article was a bunch of crap! It seems to me that all AARP is trying to get us used to is the fact that after a certain age medical care will be denied and they're trying to get us to buy into that idea.  Takes years for an idea to sink in so in order to get the next generation to begin thinking along that line the propaganda must begin now.

I agree that that article is a big pile of crap. If I hadn't had yearly PSA testing my PCa would not have been found and by now it would have most likely escaped my prostate. devil I wish I had one of those man purses to also bring to Sonny's to burn in his fire pit this week. turn

The problem with this article, and those like it is that they are written with such confusing generality that they leave no room for common sense..As with many others of you, this subject almost caused me to cease getting my annual PSA test. Just fortunately my URO sent a note at 18 months to remind me. And just fortunately, I went in then right away..

My PSA had doubled !!

My PC was very near exiting the Prostate..

From here on is to be the history.

I vote for some COMMON SENSE !!

I just posted on AARP's Facebook page for the "AARP Bulletin". I told them what I thought about their article and that I will not be renewing my membership because of this story. I hope others that read it take notice.

Monday's Monthly Support Group Meeting
20 men attended and 5 had the AARP magazine with them. We had a round robin discussion and when my turn came I asked for a show of hands if the men were diagnosed by psa and dre..19 hands rose so I was the only man diagnosed by symptoms! At home that night I felt like kicking myself in the axx for my uninformed journey..Lupron has just about wore off but I was depressed.
I wish that I was at Sonny's to observe the "burning of the purse ritual"..Do it!

In my effort to reply back to 81GyGuy's post, where he is writing a letter to AARP, I wanted to see the original article and how they actually worded it. So I search the HW site and came across this thread in 2009...

So...this was 6 months before I was diagnosed in 2009. I remember even back then all the mixed messages about testing... They were part of the mixed messages. I hold them partly responsible for many guys developing advanced cases of PC over the past 5 years.

Also interesting to see how passionate some of the posters were back in 2009....
