JackH,
Thank you for your informed and active advocacy. Support for this resolution will further the cause much more than my individually tailored letters to the "movers and shakers". In particular, I appreciate your support of reviewing the "benefits vs harms" of those at at higher risk including those exposed to Agent Orange. The task force doesn't differentiate between average and high risk; screening is simply "Not Recommended". There appears to be dissension in the ranks since the VA makes "No Recommendation for or against screening" although it is not to be performed unless the patient "specifically asks for the test" in the absence of any information provided.
I have a copy of the VA guidance regarding prostate cancer screening which is not in the public domain with the proviso of "do not copy or distribute". After contacting the VA I received a call a week later that the latest edition will be sent to me as I requested; when I receive it, I'll forward copies to Catalona, UsToo in Downers Grove, and others and will sent it to members of this forum if requested.
I took my wife to the park 2 hours ago so that she could walk. While there a 65 year old veteran was exercising his 2 labs and we talked. He just had his first psa at our local VA medical facility and it was 13. He is to wait 3 months and then have another--WOW!
I'm just a country boy that was "snake bit" by the VA so I won't go any further. Your actions are appreciated!!
Bill
