In regards to a 3 Tesla MRI besided the technology is there a difference between an endorectal coil MRI and a 3t MRI using contrast?  Is one more accurate, sensitive then the other?

Toyoung mine was both a 3T and coil with and without contrast.
I not sure what any of it means, below is directly from my report.

"MR 3T PROSTATE W PROBE W/WO CON"

All I have to say is 3mg of Ativan made it all OK.

They are different things. 3 Tesla or 3T describes the strength of the magnetic field -- the stronger, the higher the resolution of the image. Many MRI machines in use are 1.5 Tesla.

The endorectal coil focuses the magnetic field around the prostate, giving a better image, but at a cost of some anatomical distortion. So you can have both a 3T MRI and an endorectal coil.

Dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) will help show the blood supply. There are several other parameters they can look at. T2 shows anatomy well, DWI shows how tightly the cells are packed, and MR Spectroscopy shows certain metabolic characteristics. Several or all of these parameters may be looked at, called "multiparametric." It requires the talents of an experienced radiologist to interpret these well.

The coil, the field strength and the parameters used depend on what they are trying to use the MRI for -- there are several different purposes.

Tall Allen, I had a 3t MRI with/without contrast. Is a 3t MRI with the endorectal coil a better method, better resolution and imaging?  Is more reliable data collected through the MRI using the endorectal coil?

As I tried to explain, it depends on what it's being used for. It distorts anatomy but provides focus. You would never use it for radiation planning, for example.

I had the parametric MRI using a coil (approx 16" by12") strapped on my abdomen with and without contrast (gadolinium) and using a 3 tesla machine. Process took almost 2 hours with over 2700 views. My Uro said that the MRI this is the new gold standard for imaging prostate cancer.

That would be a pelvic coil not the endo-rectal coil asked about 16x12 would be a little hard to use rectal. Lol

Two hours is a LONG time in an MRI machine. Mine was about 1-1/2 hours, and it was a mental challenge. I ended up getting myself into a meditative state and zoning out. The most uncomfortable thing was having my arms above my head the whole time, which really killed my shoulders. No extra coils of any kind, though. Good times.....

Had the 3.0 Tesla Endorectal Coil MRI in January to find where in the prostate the PCa was.  It showed a large TZ tumor and possible SVI.

It lasted what seemed like a very long time and the MRI machine was very noisy.  The C-11 Choline Pet Scan I had later didn't last as long and was much quieter.
