Well here i am , I found this site doing research for my 1st truss biopsy, yes I have had a difficult time urinating, and went to the family Dr. , he immediately sent me to the urologist with a psa of 70 , and a "hard feeling prostate" , he told me. I'm kind of frightened in a way, I read an awful too much maybe, I'll be back after tuesday to tell you more, the prospect of surgery is quite scary, I'm 52 live alone and very rural.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you have to be here but understand your concerns. I was 48 when I was diagnosed and live alone. I had surgery and made it fine at home. I will say don't jump to conclusions until you've talked to your urologist. Also, how far is it to a large city from your home?

Welcome. You found the source. There are a lot of folks with good information. It is scary, but not insurmountable. Keep in touch and these guys will carry you along. If you need advice or just a shoulder to lean on, this is the place.

Infection could drive it that high, but until you get positive results, don't let things get too far ahead inside your head. But if that goes south, we are here for you, to help you t hrough every step of the way.

Welcome to our corner of the world. Sorry you need to be talking to us.

Stop reading everything on the internet - there's a lot of wacky stuff out there and a bunch of it flat out lies.

Still, that is a high PSA and the DRE finding isn't what you want. The biopsy and maybe some antibiotics should be next on your list. Even if the worst is true, there are plenty of treatments out there and you can expect to see many more summers in the country.

The thing now is to get more information on what you've got. Anything said right now is speculation. Get some more info from the docs and do let us know what you find out.

and don't let the thought of surgery scare you too much. Lots of guy have had it and made it through and you have other options like radiation to consider if it comes to that.

Hello ......

   Try not to read too much into the high PSA at the moment. Hopefully, it's an infection - but even if not, there are a lot of choices in the future.

   Right now ..... I'm sweating two fairly high PSA readings in the last 2-1/2 weeks - and I should know better than to assume the worst!!!! After my last chemo for 5+ months, I was taken off the chemo. My PSA went from 15+ to 33+ to 40+ all in 9-weeks.

   My Oncologist is in a "wait and see" attitude for another two weeks - then another catscan - and only then - a decision of what's next! And, by the way, this has been about ten years for me since the original PC diagnosis.

   Try to not think too much about it - at least, until you and your doctors know more.

Hi jr,

I was PSA 59 three and a half years ago. Treatment got me to effectively zero within 90 days and I have been there since. I trust you will do well and we are all here to assist you.

I think prostatitis is a much more likely cause, especially with the urinary retention you are experiencing. I'm surprised he didn't prescribe Cipro and retest after.
