New immunotherapy on the way...

The substance's mechanism of action is as follows: the Ipilumumab antibodies disable "inhibitors", giving the body's immune system a boost.

Ipilimumub is marketed under the name yervoy by Bristol Meyers squib and is approved for the treatment of metastatic melonoma. In a phase 3 double blind study in mcrpca the drug failed to reach an endpoint. The trial was considered a failure. The median survival was 1.5 months over the placebo arm and there were tons of side effects due to a ramped up immune system attacking healthy cells. Immunotherapy is coming. Provenge prostvac etc but yervoy may not be all that the article suggests. Just saying.... Todd

Journalists are worse than politicians with how they embellish and mis-represent the truth.  In their defense most of them are just ignorant.  They do about 30 minutes of research and then write an article to give people false hope.

If I had 1 cent for every "break through" press release I've read, I'd literally be a billionaire.

I stopped reading every flash in the pan press release like these years ago.  The only way I will ever become hopeful of a cure is the day some treatment center starts actually curing people and I can go there and see it myself.

Otherwise, this is all crap.  Google cancer breakthrough sometime.  You will get articles dated as far back as 30 years stating the a cure for cancer it just around the corner.

I'm frustrated too. But if you could read each of those articles in one second, a billion cents worth of articles would take 3,170.979 years to read. So maybe not literally, but I get your point.

The difference is, I personally know a PC patient who was involved in a phase 2 trial of ipilimumab - he started out with PSA over 2000 at diagnosis, widespread mets. Then trial meds. Currently, he's on only prednisone (due to the adrenal gland damage from ipi), his mets have resolved, and PSA is undetectable. So, I believe there may be something to this medication.

If I remember correctly, Lupron initially. Not sure if there were other meds used - I'll have to ask him when I see him in a couple of weeks.
