I had DaVinci surgery with five incisions -- four small ports and one larger one over my navel where the bag containing my prostate was pulled out after the robot had cut it loose and bagged it. My four small incisions were all glued but the larger one over my navel was stapled. I had assumed that this was simply how it is done but now I don't know. Several of us have highjacked a young lady's thread to compare our scars. I decided to start a new thread so everybody can get into the act.

Hi Peter.
I had a 6 inch open incision with around 24 staples. I've been itchy around them for a couple of days. Glad they're coming out on Friday.

Just for some interesting info. My husband is full of internal staples. it looks like quite a few. He recently had a pelvic X-ray and found the unusual circle of staples around where the prostate had been. Apparently they will stay for ever "insitu" but we never knew that until recently. He had external staples but they were removed. Apparently according to our family doc this is not unusual, and since hubby did not suffer incontinence, seems to have worked. His pelvic X-ray however, looks quite odd as a result but apparently surgeon's preference. We've never been overseas but wonder of course if it would set of any alarms. Plenty of time to find out I guess! Not going anywhere soon. We both just found the internal staple situation quite interesting since we never knew but has not caused any problems at all. I haven't posted to the poll but thought this may be worth a mention. Bye for now, Lana

I was all glued and boy was that a pleasant surprise. I was actually anxious about taking stitches out prior to the surgery.

All glued here including the larger incision. Suprapubic cath site closed spontaneously once cath pulled . My urologist feels supra public cath is better for bladder control than cath through the urethra .

All glued for my DaVinci and same with my recent AUS surgery. Must be the way they do it down here in Florida. I live 4 miles from the ocean, I guess they are afraid the staples might get rusty with all the humidity and salt water in the air.

Internal stitches over navel and glue for the rest. I can still feel something poking up near the incision over the navel

I haven't had RP but my other two surgeries were closed with glue.
I think I've got a bottle of that kind of glue in my shop...
