Had my biopsy

Like others have said, the apprehension was worse than the biopsy.

It was pretty painful, on a 1-10 I would have to say the needles that numb you are like when the dentist gives you that shot in the strap of your jaw for lower teeth, or the one between your 2 front teeth, feels like a beesting.

The 12 cores are worse than a rubber band snapping as one guy said. Every one hurt pretty good, made me say "OUCH!!" 12 times. Nothing intolerable but you wouldn't want to make a habit of it. I thought the gun would take all 12 at once but he counted them off one at a time. After the 2 numbing shots he waited 15 minutes. I think I would have liked to have had a little more novacaine. I had a hernia repaired 40 years ago and I was awake with local, not a spinal nerve block where you can't feel anything from the waist down, he just used a lot of novacaine or whatever they use. The Biopsy was worse than the hernia repair the old fashioned way with a 6 inch scar.

I'm just glad it's over. Didn't pee for 9 hours after. It was brown. That was about midnite. It burned and started out a pretty slow stream. about 1/2 way through a big clot or something broke loose, felt like Little Barry spit out a chunk of meat or something that splashed in the water, then had real good stream.

I have avoided all the Alpha Blockers, Avodart, Cardura, Rapiflo, etc because I didn't like the light headed feeling like I was going to faint all the time. Maybe that's just me, don't know if they make everybody light headed. I went with Saw Palmetto and Pygeum. You can buy them cheap from Swanson Vitamins dot com. They take about a month to start working real good then they work good if you have trouble getting a good stream going, at least for me. To me they have been a blessing. No Retrograde Ejaculation, no light headedness, no side effects at all, just make you pee good. You have to take at least 2 each a day. To start 3 a day is better, but like I said they are cheap from Swanson. The Doctor told me they don't work. For me he was wrong. It's not instant gratification is all, you have to take them for a few weeks at least. I think they just want to sell you expensive pills that have terrible side effects.

I am not a Doctor. I can only speak for myself and my own experience. The Doc said "try them if you want, but they probably won't work." Now he is saying "If they work for you, keep taking them."

I got this done because 1 year ago I had to go to the ER because I was peeing blood on the weekend of course, when you can't see your own Doc. They did CT scan and said I had BPH and UTI. Then before I was on the Saw Palmetto and Pygeum I couldn't pee at all with a very full bladder sometimes and had weak stream when I did go. My PSA was at 5.5 a year ago, Cipro and a few courses of Keflex brought it down to 4.5. When off antibiotics it would go up until the last one a few weeks ago was 7.2.

Now I go back in about 10 days to get the results. I think the waiting for the Biopsy and now waiting for the results are worse than the actual Biopsy.

I would like to thank all the good people here for the advise and helping me understand what to expect.

The blood in the urine is bad enough, but your semen will be worse...You might want to self-purge instead of donating a mess to your sex partner..

Sorry, I had stuff going on and never rated the pain on a 1-10 scale. My 10 is pretty high after a motorcycle wreck in 2002. In 2 seconds I had a head injury, collapsed lung and 24+ fractures, some bad compound fractures, some regular fractures, 2 fractured vertabrae and a broken pelvis. This will sound crazy but, I saw the Grim Reaper.

That's my 10. Compared to that this biopsy was a 4. Before my wreck this biopsy would have been a good solid 6. The only thing I can say is the pain is only that intense while you are getting the shots. a total of 2 minutes, tops.

Anyone trying to decide if they want to get the biopsy done should go ahead and get it. There aren't many ways worse to die than of Cancer. My Mom had MS. That's a rough way to go too. Get the test if you don't want someone wiping your butt and cleaning the drool off your chin.. Compared to Death by Cancer this is a piece of cake.

Thanks again for all the support from you guys. I hope I can help someone like all of you have helped me on deciding to go ahead and get the biopsy at 61 years old.
