Taxotere Dosage Question

My father has begun taking Taxotere again. He was on it in 2008 and then it stopped working. His Dr is trying it again since he has had all other meds and failed those. He is keeping him on Xtandi even though PSA tripled. But the dose of taxotere is only 10mg-every 4 weeks. Can someone speak to this from a standpoint of: is this Palliative or is it due to this being second time he has taken the chemo.

Hmm, the math seems off. The "standard" dose for castration-resistant prostate cancer is 75 mg/m2 at 3 week intervals. I did adjuvant taxotere as part of my initial treatment so they reduced that to 60 mg/m2 every 3 weeks. At my body mass, that translated to 117 mg per dose. (FYI: I am thin.) I would ask the doctor.

If Taxotere stopped working, why isn't his oncologist trying Jevtana? Was there a problem with tolerating the side effects of Taxotere?

My father and his Dr have ruled out Jevtana for quality of life reasons. Taxotere hit him hard last time and seems to be doing that this time already - 2ND treatment today. Here is his actual dosage - I may be reading it wrong:

134.0 mg (10 mg/mL) The 10mg/ml is what caught my eye

10 mg/ml is the concentration of the stuff in the bottle. His dose is 134 mg. So all that means is that he will be infused with 13.4 ml of the stuff.

Got it - thank you! Now to see if it is effective on a 2nd go around! Dr is not expecting much but thinks it is the best and only option now.

Neither...just adding this everyday perspective.

My experience with chemo is that it is dosed based on body size, mg/m² where m² is the body's surface area.

Febrile neutropenia, ANC <500/mm³ for >1 week, or severe/cumulative cutaneous reactions, moderate neurosensory S/S
Reduce to 60 mg/m²
If AEs persist: Discontinue
