Choosing a place to have MRI done and read

My husband is thinking of having a 3 Tesla MRI so that we know if anything is lurking in his prostate or surrounding area--other than the known 0.7 cm nodule. At least two locations here (Seattle area) have this newish imaging technology and we're trying to figure out where to go. Assuming I can find someone at each institution willing to answer my questions, what are the questions I should be asking to differentiate the places? Will they disclose the identity and credentials of the person who will be reading the results? Will they disclose the cost?

(By the way, the first consulting surgeon said that we should have the imaging done at his hospital because it uses an apron instead of an endo-rectal coil and because the machine had been validated with over 50 specimens.)

These scans are not cheap so your insurance company will be involved..Always ask that the procedure is "pre-approved" before having it done unless you can absorb the full cost yourself...

Melanie: I wore the apron for the mpMRI. I do not have info regarding their 3T machine. I can tell you the folks there were very friendly and extremely helpful. Here is their phone number (206)329-6767 and e-mail. www.firsthill.com.
