One of the first things I thought about
this past Monday morning: "our" month is here.
Then I got some pleasant confirmation of this fact when I went out into my front yard the next morning, Tuesday, and picked up that morning's issue of the local newspaper, the "Gainesville Sun."
Then a few minutes later when I
opened it up on the kitchen table to read while having morning coffee, I turned through it and was pleasantly surprised to see a full page article and photos about
PCa, getting the word out.
This newspaper publishes both print and online versions that are more or less identical (I guess most newspapers do that now), so here is the text of that full page article that I saw in my paper copy:
www.gainesville.com/article/20140902/ARTICLES/140829491/-1/archive?Title=Finding-the-right-approach-to-screening-and-treatment-for-prostate-cancerA typical article on the subject, yes, but one worth mentioning because there it was, a full page in the local newspaper, at the right time. Made me proud of my local paper.
So that's something we can do. If your local paper doesn't run any such articles now or during this month, get on them about
it. It's probably easy to do. Just go to their website and surely they have an email listed for readers to use to contact them. And they may even have an email address for submitting letters-to-the-editor, and this is certainly a worthy topic to be discussed in that arena, if you would like to write one.
Lots we can do this month. Letting your local paper know what they can do, if they're not already doing it, is one of them.
