Hi
Im new here, aged 44 (August) and live in England. I have a few questions regarding my prostate problems.
My blood test shows 0.50 psa and my testosterone was low. Sorry unsure of result but it was lower than normal for my age. I've had bone pains on and off for 18 months in my lower back, 12 months in my left hip/pelvis. The pain has been constant for the last 5 months where ive been given various meds and physio to sort the problem to no avail.
I also have a constant pain in my low abdomen just above the pubic bone but to the left. Docs assumed it was IBS and ive tried 3 lots of IBS pills to no avail. I have an impending ultrasound.
The bone pain is worse when doing activities and i feel it worse at night when laid in bed.
I was in the endocrionologists talking about testosterone patches when he decided to give me a DRE. His mood changed and he said i needed a referral with an Urologist as it was enlarged. he didnt say if it was lumpy or hard and i didnt know enough then to ask but the change in his manner still has me spooked. I have no other urinary pains or symptoms whatsoever which is also strange if he did feel it was enlarged.
Now im wondering if all these pains are actually linked to my prostate.
Ive also recently started getting pains in my jaw and inbetween my shoulder blades but unsure if this is with worry.
I realise im young for this, and having a low psa initially gave me a little bit of relief and i thought it may be prostatitis or an infection but now ive read that low testosterone can mask higher psa readings and that aggressive cancer can also give incorrect low psa readings as it can be differentiated. Surely if i did have metastatic PCa it would have to be agressive due to my age.
Is all this true? Could i actually have a much higher psa? Could my psa really be so much higher that it could put me in the advanced prostate psa range?
Could i have had bone pains for 18 months and still be in relatively good health if i had an agressive form of PCa without any treatment?
Am i over-reacting here or does any of this sound worrying or ring any bells with anyone?
the referral cant come quick enough.
i thought PC only affected older men but i can see from this forum there are lots of us in the early to mid 40's and quite a few with agressive metastatic PC
sorry if im ranting but im scared as in one trip to the docs i went from a chat about testosterone to potentially having PC with mets.
