Diagnosed in 2002 age 48 (PSA 4) and treated at MD Anderson (Dr. Andrew Lee) with combined therapy. 2014 reoccurrence with a PSA of 2. DV Salvage procedure on August 26th 2014 by Dr. Claus Roehrborn at UT Southwestern in Dallas. A few complications with post op bacterial infections but as of today, doing well with a only a few dribbles when exercising. Back to running and golfing. PSA post surgery Non Det. Nerve sparing on one side only. I consider myself lucky to have had two excellent Doctors during my twelve year journey.

Congratulations to you. Few have had salvage surgery like you did, I am glad its working out well for you, and hope you continue to pull good numbers.

Thanks. I discovered the site post surgery and I found the shared experiences to informative and comforting. In my experience there are few people that you can discuss the subject with. Others in the same boat, your Doctor and your partner. My wife is the my rock in the storm.

Congratulations on the good report. Roehrborn is my urologist, too, and did my daVinci in 2011 plus follow up since. He is top shelf at UTSW and the hospital also has some of the best staff.

And +1 on having an understanding wife!

The Urology nursing team at UTSW are first class. I also checked a couple of other places and UTSW also offered the best deal financially ( I was self pay).

Timcebu: First congratulations and may your PSAs continue to be undetectables.

Am i understanding you correctly to have had BT and EBRT when you refer to combo thearapy?

No, IMRT + Hormones for two years after radiation treatment.

First off congratulations on your rapid recovery from a difficult (and some say impossible) procedure! So...IMRT and two years of HT. If I may ask, what were your original stats? Was there talk about going back on HT instead of the salvage treatment? Lastly, how did they know that it was your radiated prostate that was causing the PSA rise versus something in the prostate bed or some other part of your body?

Sorry for all the questions, but your situation is unique and the outcome so positive. Any info you can share would be helpful.

I will have a look see for the original stats. My oncologist at MDA talked about HT once we knew about the re occurrence - there was an offer to go into a new trial. Prior to the biopsy in July this year I had three tests. A bone scan, MRI with Endo Rectal Coil and a cat scan of my abdomen. As I live in the Philippines I had the test done in Manila. The bone and CAT scan were clear, the MRI showed a shadowed area. Sent the results to MDA on disc prior to my arrival in Houston. The oncologist reviewed and based on the MRI with ERC he advised a biopsy. This came back positive on 8/12. I then had to make a call - HT or surgery. I opted for the latter based on some research that I did myself and consultation with two urologists. The surgeon in Dallas who handled the SP was confident - he had previously carried out 45 similar procedures and a total of more or less 1500 prostatectomy's. I was aware of the risks but prior to the procedure I made sure I was in A1 condition.
