Bone scan led to last minute x-ray?

Can anyone explain to me why my dad went in today for a bone scan and before he could walk out the door someone stopped him and they rushed him for an x-ray without explanation? Could it be possible they saw a hot spot on the scan and decided to check it with an x-ray?

He was asked if he had cancer anywhere else in his body and if he was having lower back pain. He's been having severe lower back pain, but his doctors said it's from his prostate and prescribed him naproxen for the pain. He doesn't have any other cancer.

He was scheduled to start radiation in July, but had to put it off due to his HMO and constant delays with them and his original urologist. He now has a new urologist who has taken his case more seriously and in a month has been able to set up radiation treatments starting next month. He goes next week for his seeding. He was originally diagnosed earlier this year (his stats are in my signature if you'd like to know).

It's also possible that he was suppose to get both a scan and an x-ray, someone forgot the x-ray, discovered the oversight and rather than admit the mistake, they did the rush thing.

I understand the concern about a sudden x-ray. My bone scan showed two hot spots, one in my lower back and one in my shoulder. So, they ordered so-called "plain film" x-rays to find out if those were indicative of metastatic cancer, or just something else like arthritis or injuries. That radioactive tracer goes to any area with bone "activity", for any reason.

The hot spots kind of freaked me out, but the x-rays showed they weren't cancer so it was a relief after all.
