For me the ultrasound guided biopsy was uncomfortable. I did my best to find the humor in the situation by dictating a letter to my doctor. Dear Dr Mershon ever since my procedure I have been having romantic thoughts about you. That's as far as I got. For me it was more a humiliating experience as there were two young nursing students observing the procedure. I had tears rolling down my face the entire time. I'm glad I will never have to do that one again. Todd

I was giving a combination of valium and a pain killer and an antibitoic shot. Was numbed before the biopsy and to be honest I felt nothing.  Only problem was I was a little wobbly walking out.  My biopsy was done on a thursday morning and got the call friday afternoon, mainly due to the fact my urologist was going on vacation.

I guess it boils down to everyone has a different story.  Some good, some not so good.

A TRUS (TransRectal UltraSound guided) biopsy is a pain in the ass but more in the figure-of-speech sense than a literal one. I had four and never really learned to like them. I did find that a bit of Valium helped. It sort of depends on how you are wired. For me, men in white coats poking around up my behind with spring-loaded devices that shoot out needles to take gerbil-bites out of my man parts... makes me nervous and a bit of pharmaceutically-induced detachment is welcome.

From someone that has had the biopsy just a few months ago, it is more of a pride thing than a pain thing. I had 14 cores and it took about 15 minutes or so from when the doctor came in till he walked out. I had a guy that did a bunch of ultrasound images first and then helped clean me up afterwards. I got a couple of shots of antibiotic and was sent on my way. Took a total of 30 minutes. (Filling out the paperwork, initial all of the stuff, get the ultrasound, the biopsy, cleanup, shots and getting a return appointment.)

The noise of the biopsy "gun" was the worse thing for me. I could feel the pokes, but they did not really hurt.

I had bloody BM for a day and in urine for about 4 hours. (Drank a LOT of water!) There will be blood in your ejaculate for a while but it will not hurt anyone. I also took a couple of Tylenol later in the day because of a dull discomfort. Kind of like I had fell ice skating.

With this diagnosis, I learned to accept many different people touching and manipulating parts of my body. They all acted professionally and tried to maintain the "male pride" we all have.

Hope it all comes out well....

Now that's funny...

Biopsy number three coming up for me next week. This time, the good folks at MD Anderson will be the ones up my tailpipe. I'm a bit curious to see how they compare with my local urologist's technique...

My husband joked with the doc all the way through. I was sitting outside and was waiting for all to go quiet as I thought he must be talking to a nurse. Then he suddenly came out and I asked why they were delaying it. He felt the tiniest of tweaks each time a core was taken.

Had my biopsy this morning. Twelve cores taken.

The doctor inserted a ultrasound probe which was a little uncomfortable. He took some measurements then administered a local anesthetic which felt like a few pin pricks.

The biopsy itself felt about the same as if you took a ball point pen and lightly poked the back of your hand every 5 seconds till you got to 12. It really wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected.

The entire procedure took less than 10 minutes.

I was a sore for a few hours; more of an ache than a sharp pain. After 8 hours there is practically no discomfort.

Glad yours went fairly well, mine not so much.

I had no anestetic and it felt more like a rubber band snapping against my scrotum and tip of my penius with each shot. Doc was good about saying 'here it comes...' but I had tears by the end of it.

I also felt like I was sitting on a bar of soap for about 2 weeks post procedure and had rectal bleeding 4 weeks past running for the first time on the treadmill.

I still sit down careful each time especially on a hard bench and I'm now more tha 5 weeks post biopsy.
