MRI Endo Coil w/wo Contrast

For those of you who have had it, what should i expect? Doesn't sound fun getting an inflatable sausage stuck up your piehole then having to lay still for 45 minutes to an hour.

I called the scheduler at the Drs office who scheduled me (for this coming Tuesday) and asked if they would be giving me any anesthesia, she said yes they give you a sedative. I didnt ask if it was IV, put you to sleep, or what, but i did say i was planning to drop a Xanax, she said i should do that too.

Can someone prepare me for what to expect?

Better bring two Xanax. And don't forget the beer chaser. (On second thought, forget the beer chaser since the last thing you want is to have to pee while you're in there.)

FWIW, I hated this. Maybe I wasn't prepared enough for this, but I was seriously contemplating tearing that probe out of my rear and running down the hall. But maybe that's just me...others here have commented that it wasn't so bad. I didn't have a sedative, but if so maybe it would have been easier for me.

Thanks all. Jack thank you for that link. I will def add to it after my procedure, I want to find ways to help others to pay back the amazing value I've gotten from you all. I won't post technical stuff though because I won't have it. I just want to get thru it and get the results. I'm leaving it to Dr Tewari to get me what I need.

njs no clue why with and without contrast, I thoght that was normal protocol.
Dr Tewari explained to me that the reason for the MRI is to give him more data on what to expect. He said he would be able to give me more information on my chances of avoiding Permanent ED and I thinkhe said it will possibly, not definitely, show if there was anything more sinister going on besides the G6. Or maybe that was just something I read, Also, info on possible extracapsular extension. Again not definitive but probabilities

I just misread your original post I missed the "WITH" and just noticed the "without". Sounds like normal PCa study...

Ughhh. Have a good attitude and you'll get through this fine.
As the guys said above, it's a good idea to take something to help you relax during this procedure. Also, i always ask for extra numbing jel when they are inserting the coil. I've had 4 of them and am scheduled for a 5th. And no, it's not because I enjoy it.😳 The worst part isn't the coil. It's the balloon that's inflated at the end once the coil is inside you. But if you can relax your body, you can fight the urge to push it out.
I understand that the reason for this MRI is that the imaging is better than other scans since it is so close to the prostate area as well as the bladder and rectum. It helps for mapping and planning surgeries and radiation as well as being a diagnostic tool.

Unfortunately, I think they need you awake for this procedure. At least that's how I remember it. There are times that they ask you to hold your breath so checking totally out isn't an option.

Prat -- Is it a 3T machine?
Imaging is so much better on a 3T

So i got a call today from the hospital to confirm MRI tomorrow, and of course, being me, i couldn' help but start asking questions about the endo coil procedure. They told me they don't use the endo coil anymore because they get just as good a result with the new machine (she said 3 tesla) I asked her to confirm that with the radiologist, because i thought my docs office told me it was with the endo coil, and she came back to me telling me that the radiologist (or technician) confirmed it.

Then i emailed my contact at the Surgeons office and she also said, it was correct and ok, without endo
Very confusing. But she does this (scheduling) all the time and the Dr is a rock star, so i have to assume he is doing the right thing here.

I actually tooled around the Internet this afternoon and found that it's quite common with 3T to avoid the dreaded coil.
