4 years on .......

Hi folks,

Well it was four years ago yesterday (sat 13th) that i had my radical prostatectomy and i am still clear with a PSA of 0.03 so life is good on that score though of course there are some setbacks to live with.

My bladder control is at about 95% and the only time i spring a leak is upon spontaneous laughter but hey having a laugh is positive thing isn't it ? The bedroom side is still lacking but we as a couple are coming to terms with it and my true love focuses on me still being here and says that sex is secondary from her point of view.

One thing i could do with some advise on though is bowel control. Ever since my surgery its as if my rectum does not close down quite as firm as it did before and can give some mixed signals and i have had to learn to not always trust the signals and "go" to just make sure. Have any of you had this as a post pc related issue or is it just coincidence on my part as i have got older, 62 now btw?

Yep,,same problem Bob. "Prairie Dogs" Sphincter not quite as reliable as pre-surgery.

Have you seen a gastroenterologist lately, perhaps for your periodic colonoscopy? about a year after my prostate surgery, I started to get some weird bowel behavior which included leaking some mucous. I had a colonoscopy which found some inflammation in the lower intestine. Medication solved the problem. My prostate surgeon and gastro doc both said it was totally unrelated to my prostate cancer/surgery, but that it was a very good idea that I had the colonoscopy to be sure that everything was healthy.

Congrats on your 4 successful years. Like Gedman,I've had recent bowel issues, and a colonoscopy scheduled for Thursday may provide an answer.

I saw the gastro doc earlier this year as i too had a mucus discharge and they found mild diverticulitis which is lots better than bowel cancer that they where looking for, they always seem to assume the worse after pc dont they?
