At 42, the diagnosis of cancer was sobering. Worrying about
how to provide for two kids under 5... And with a bun in the oven when I was diagnosed, it was all more sobering and frightening still; particularly with fear of the diagnosis possibly changing to something beyond the initial G6. I was lucky that my stats stayed the same with the post-op pathology.
I'm now 45 with three kids 7, 5, and 32 months. Busy as he11... in the best ways. The oldest daughter reads to me nearly every night and brings great reports from school each day. My 5 yr old daughter is happy as a clam too and is beginning to read and write. The youngest, my 2 1/2 yr old boy, is a maniac. :) I can't believe they're all mine. Happy, healthy, and goofy. My lovely and wonderful wife and I have our hands full with this action packed life of ours.
My surgical date, 11/4, passed without even remembering it. My wife had to ask me and I honestly forgot. Felt good when she reminded me that I've gotten to this point of not remembering it. Had my yearly physical a week ago. Had my annual PSA too: <.01. Wasn't "worried" but I wanted the results so I wouldn't "worry." If you know what I mean.
I don't come around often anymore, but when I do, I'm glad to sometimes still see ChrisR and davidg still holding the line for us younger guys. ChrisR has posted excellent articles, both academic and mainstream, for men in their 40's with G6 prostate cancer. They, and he, helped me tremendously steel myself to what was happening, while gaining the knowledge and confidence that everything would work out. If you're new here, I would suggest you look for his posts. We both had our surgery at Hopkins.
My surgeon/uro says he doesn't need to see me anymore. All he needs is my yearly PSA. "If you have any questions call me. Move on, man. You'll be fine." I'm glad to accommodate him. When I sent the results this year he responded, "Don't you have a diaper to change?! You're doing great. Enjoy the Holidays!" I intend to.
Cheers fellas! Happy Holidays!

Well, thanks for the well wishes, fellas. Just got a chance to check back. I want to make the post each year for younger guys who find themselves in my situation. A cancer diagnosis can be daunting. It was momentarily daunting for me until I found a great resource here AND a great doctor who convinced me that, "...there is nothing to worry about
until there is something to worry about
. And then we have measures to take which can solve the problem... when there's a problem." Made total sense to me and I will be forever indebted for his calm and sensible approach.
What I love most about
this site is that it is active. This post from just a few days ago was three pages deep. Keep talking. Keep sharing. And keep fighting.
I really enjoy that when I do stop by, that I find a ton of new therapies being talked about
. More bullets often lead to better results in any battle. Huzzah!
Happy Holidays to everyone.
