I am hating to read this :( You've been so confident in your decision and have probably researched more than most 2 year urology students. That's just the old devil that likes to mess w/ our minds and make us doubt everything. You well know that we've been there too. Let me ask you this, you said the thoughts running through your mind are is it really contained? Is it really a G8 instead of a G6? The only way you'll ever know that for SURE is w/ the surgery (and I'm not pushing you for the surgery if you decide to back out and do something else). I'm just saying if you decided to go another route would you still be worrying the whole time w/ those same questions? Yes, I think you would. So get it out and find out for sure (if you want to haha, I'm sounding bossy saying that). Surgery is not bad. Yes Bob had a bad experience, but just like PC every surgery will be individualized. You may not have a reaction to the dye, anesthesia, or whatever it is that made Bob so sick. You may not have green pee (the green pee was kind of interesting though). Anyway, again, I hate reading you are going through this :(
Yeah, me too, hate it for you, but totally understand because I was identical. Worse than that, I was undecided going down the hall towards surgery, and personally I don't think I will ever be sure I made the right decision. I'm not sure how any one can ever be sure, there are so many conflicting opinions and plus so much we don't know going in, those "what ifs".
Had a group dinner last night, one friend about
10-15 years older than me talked about
his brachy/EBR combo with the Prostercision folks about
10 years ago. He is still .04 and has not been through anywhere near what I have SE wise. But then again, he is not knowledgeable about
so many details like folks here, so he may have been a G6 for all he knows, he has no clue. In which case he would probably be OK now, except for High PSA, if he had done nothing! My 80+ year old neighbor across the street has had a 18+ PSA for a couple of years now, he is doing nothing, works out in his yard all the time. No symptoms yet except BPH for which he had a TURP a few years ago. But he and his docs seem to feel a huge intervention at his age- well, whatever he has just decided to take his chances. His wife died of Alzheimer's maybe 5 years ago. For him it is not worth it, but I know others his age have either radiation or surgery.
But do I understand you are a G6? Then may I ask why you are rushing into this if you are not 100% decided? How old are you? It just seems to me that if you are having 2nd thoughts, if they can only find G6- but maybe also considering PSA and DRE results- you have some time to decide. Don't let yourself be rushed into anything. Now if you are a G9, 10.8 PSA like I was, you might not have as much time to dilly dally. As far as what if about
the G6, just try not to go there. Just go with the info you have, those are the only facts you have. After all, you could also be downgraded to a G5! How would you feel then if you had surgery for a G5? It can go one way as easy as it can go the other. ( BTW, I was a downgrade. Still G9, but from 5+4 to 4+5, a slight improvement, but good for a celebration/party anyway )
