Hey BenSam, good to hear from you again - hope your Christmas holidays were good!
On the recommendations for Moran, he only does LDR BT and it sounds like you're looking for HDR.
FWIW if that's the path you're headed down, I would seriously look at Dr. Jeffrey DeManes with the CET/UCLA. Yep, that's California! Why DeManes, because he's acknowledged as "the best" and the "forefather" of HDR BT. I checked them out and they work very well with out of town patients in terms of accommodations and so on. I see they also are talking about their "State-of-the-Art "Same Day" HDR Brachytherapy."
Of course insurance could be a consideration, but honestly I wouldn't let travel/distance weigh in. Big decision and I'd head for the best. Doesn't mean there are not others that are very capable - for that I'll let others like Tall Allen already has; also JNF and MichaelT will be great to weigh in.
I agree with prior suggestion of Dr. Brian Moran for local low dose brachy. If you are going to travel to see another guru Jeffrey Demannes at UCLA for LDR might as well also meet with his colleague at UCLA Chirs King whose specialty is SBRT. The advantage of the latter is that it can be accomplished in a week and a half every other day rather than in 7-9 weeks every work day.
I consulted with Dr. Moran, Dr. King and another guru Dr. Mack Roach at UCSF before selecting SBRT and Provenge combination therapy but I was Gleason 9.
