Hello All,
And Happy New Year!
It's been a long time since I've posted on her, just wanted some advice and support really.
To refresh, my dad was diagnosed with advanced pc in 2010 with a PSAof 1100. He was immediately started on degarelix injections and has since had various hormone therapy, chemo, enzalutimide and radio therapy. At the moment he is on prednisone (and HT injections every 4 weeks) until a new treatment becomes available, hopefully soon!
His PSA at its lowest was 184 but is steadily rising again and is touching the 500's again. We have an appointment with the oncologist on Tuesday, just wondered what questions should I be asking? Is there any treatment anyone is aware of that may benefit him.

I would really appreciate any help and advice at this stage

Lisa, I have no advice but do offer you support. Your dad is lucky to have you on his side.

Here's hoping for something to help get that PSA down again. This G9 stuff can be a handful to manage.

Some of the more knowledgeable advanced PCa folks should be along shortly with some suggestions.

Hi Lisa.

I am not familiar with which treatments available in UK are not available in US and vice versa, but did want to welcome you back.

Sounds like Barry has been through a lot with quite a bit of success and likely has a good oncologist to work with.

Good luck and do keep us posted on his progress.

Hi Lisa,

Has he been on Xofigo for any bone mets? Not sure if that is approved outside the US.

Hi Lisa,
My husband has a similar pattern. What are his symptoms and has he had any recent scans? I assume he has bone and lymph mets? I would be requesting a current scan if he hasn't had one and weigh options from there. Best of luck to you and your dad in kicking down that PSA.

Thanks for replies. Yeah dads got bone mets to his lower back, pelvis and femur. He had radiotherapy in the summer for the one on his lower back as he was in a bit if pain. He's doing ok, tho really tired atm.
He had a scan just before radiotherapy. Dr wants to do another full scan once Radium 223 is available to see if he is eligible for it. He's done incredible really considering his PSA was so high but we're not ready to give up yet!
I've never heard of Xofigo but will have a look. Unfortunately I know sometimes treatment can be down to funding and also age, but I just want to make sure he gets everything he deserves to help fight this.

Hello Lisa,

My dad is in a similar position, PSA around 800 when diagnosed May 2013, he was put on hormone injections, had TURP op and Kidney stents. PSA went down to 20 but only for a short time second line hormone treatment failed. He is presently on 3 weekly Taxotere and Steriod treatment PSA went down to 300 but now rising again now 500+. Dad had radiotherapy to hips and spine to help with the pain. Dad will have his 9th Taxotere on 15th Jan. really not sure what options we will be given. like yourself I like to know what is available. We girls need to look out for our dads and make sure they get the best treatment. Hoping your dad finds a good treatment to get the PSA down and keep good QOL.

We're back at the hospital tomorrow. Dad has only had his HT injections and low dose steroid treatment fir the past 3 months as he's had everything available so far. A irrational was withdrawn for my dad as he had chemo first....
Just hoping something else is available soon as can't bear to think of the alternative.
My dads PSA was up after chemo at around the 600's but did come down a bit after he had finished, he managed the full 10! Then started enzalutimide which took it down again. Lowest it has ever been is 180, tho that's better that when he was dx as it was 1150 odd!!!
His QOL has been good so far, just suffering with fatigue and bone mets atm.
Hoping your dad sails through his last couple of sessions Theresa x

We haven't as yet, tho I'm going to mention that today. Looks like it's had positive results for many.
