My husband was diagnosed September 23rd, he just had his 4th round of chemo on 12/23/14. Recently we noticed blood in his semen, should we be alarmed? I know this is a symptom of Prostate Cancer, he hadn't experienced this until recently. On a different note, he's had a bad cough the last 3 days. His Dr said he can take Robitussin or Dsylam but doesn't seem to be helping much, no fever or other symptoms, any suggestions?? It temporary feels better after hot tea.

We have two rounds to go and then will rescan middle to end of February, very nervous and anxious to see where we're at....

His PSA went up from 13.5 to 14.5 this month, his oncologist said we shouldn't be alarmed, that sometimes after the 3rd or 4th round of this chemo it may fluctuate some??

Can't say that I've heard about Blood in Semen being a symptom of Prostate Cancer.

After a Biopsy - you can count on that happening...

Odds are the chemo is reeking havoc on his system. But when in doubt - ask your doctor.

A week after my first HDR session; it looked like an axe murderer had been in our bedroom after the wife and I went at it (for about 3 minutes... yeah )
Now mine's very brown, and it appears it's from the radiation.

Steve is right, it's probably from the strong meds attacking the prostate, but I'd give them a call.

I noticed the same thing, just before the RP. It's not just nothing, or in your case, a result of biopsy or radiation. It means something, because it's there. Sometimes doctors like to downplay because then they don't have to face the patient or his spouse and deal with the situation.
Your stats seem pretty high risk, but the good thing is you are at a top notch facility. I am sure that they are working their best to figure out what might work in your case. As a spouse, you just need to be prepared for any outcome, and support your husband with his disease. Being told everything is fine and don't worry just isn't of much help, in my opinion. Your husband is young and his disease is aggressive. There is not much more you can do, other than be there, and learn what you can. Just don't fluff it off. Blood in semen could mean the cancer has advanced. In our case, it might have meant the seminal vesicles were involved. It's not a good sign.
Wishing you the best. Since my first husband died of cancer as well, I've been there and know that being prepared is better than blind trust.

I did have a little of that before my Bx and Dx. Then I had a bunch after my Bx.

If the PSA is rising after treatment, it could be a negative or not. I have read that after PC cells start dieing, they dump an extra load of PSA into the blood. Then again, it could be due to something else.

I noticed blood in my semen before any treatment and about three weeks after a catheter was removed due to complete urinary blockage.
