Maybe they're stranded seeds and they have to tailor the length of the strands to the size of the prostate? I'm just guessing.

I feel honoured to have a comment from you. Yes, you are correct they are stranded seeds and I never gave a thought that the length of the strands was the reason for them having to be tailor made. I thought it was the size of the seed, but what you say makes perfect sense. Thank you.

Hey Casper, and welcome back! Quite honestly Wings of Eagles' take on your comment "seeds of doom" is far more appropriate and accurate than yours!!!!!!! The statistics are there regarding incontinence, rectal and ED issues and choosing LDR BT gives you the best chance of NOT having those issues. Yes, you're doing this for your son - but you also need to accept that you need to do this for you as well - and IMHO you have made an excellent choice in treatment!

Im betting you will do well, and better than you expect in the side effects department. Just a hunch. But a strong one.

Well I had totally forgot that some of the side effects of radiation can be delayed for months or even years after treatment. I will discus this and my other concerns with my uro guy when I go to have the seeds planted on the 27th. I have already been told that I will have to take something like Flomax after my treatment and they have already started me on a course of alpha blockers that I started taking this week. Unfortunately I am unable to take ibuprofen or aspirin, They both blow my face up like the elephant man.

LoL. There is nothing like a good fart and the smell is only there for the benefit of the deaf.

Well I just hope that your hunch is correct as my hunch was about you. Yes, I was reading your 9 page thread whilst in hospital this week having my mapping done. Only the P-Man can build a thread that big in such a short space of time. I think you must be on a mission to reach your 1000th post by the end of the month. The mods should give you a special award. Maybe a golden walnut!

Well after reading what Tall Allen has said above it looks like my concerns regarding ED could be delayed. Looks like it will be a wait and see situation.

Well the fact that your brother has had good results from LDR makes me feel a little better about my treatment choice. I hope that he continues to do well.

I am going to take a well earned break when this is all over. In May my son and I will be going to Germany for a few days. We have decided to drive so that I don’t have to go through the embarrassment of setting of the security alarms at the airport LoL

FYI - flomax is an alpha-blocker. Wise to start early. Can you take naproxyn? What about Celebrex?

Sorry my mistake. Yes they have already started me on a drug like Flomax, but over here it is called Tamsulosin. In that case the tablets that I have to take after my treatment must be antibiotics, I know nothing about the two anti-inflammatory's you have mentioned. All our medication over here tends to go by different names than you use in America. That said I am ok with anything as long as it is not Aspirin or Ibuprofen.

Casper, my own implant will be February 2 so only a few days after you. I have already received the preoperative instructions and I won't be taking any medicine preop. In fact, aspirin in particular is strictly forbidden for the whole week before the implant.

My case is similar to yours, I am mainly doing it for the family because AS is really the most reasonable choice. On the other hand, it does not seem as if the SE's are really severe. I guess we will see soon enough

Edit: I now remember that the aspirin is forbidden because of the epidural anesthesia. I remember reading that this is controversial but it seems the consensus in Spain is to avoid aspirin.

Naproxyn is the generic name. In the US, the brand names include Aleve or Naprosyn. It's a 12-hour anti-inflammatory. Sold over-the-counter in the US.

Celebrex is the brand name of celecoxib. It's a COX-2 inhibitor - an NSAID for people who can't take drugs like aspirin or ibuprofen for one reason or another. There may be CV risks. It's by Rx only - Ask your doctor.

Thanks for the information Allen. I have already added this to my list of questions to ask the uro guy when I go back on the 27th. I had not thought of the pain side of things post treatment. I certainly had very little after my biopsy that was carried out in a similar way, but then they did not go planting crops on that occasion.

Yes the decision making process was pretty tough and even though I have chosen my treatment I can sat I feel any better. In fact I think my son will have to drag me through the hospital doors on the 27th........Is that normal?

Caspar, you know my thoughts and prayers are with you all the way. I hope and know, that your treatment is successful and that you find peace, you deserve it. I know the kind of person you are from our email exchanges.

Just a suggestion. Consider creating a thread that is a chronicle of your experience with LDR. day to day, eventually week to week, during and after treatment. You could keep a journal if you don't want to be here during treatment and start it after your done, retroactively. It would be a great value to newbies. Halbert and I are doing it in the surgery side, and having yours on the Brachy side would be a great complement. Just a thought.

And hey, if you do this, you too,mean have your very own 9 page thread.

Tall Allen's never trust a fart advice had to do with always do your farting on the pot as radiation is a gift that keeps on giving and you would not want to soil your pad or worse yet your underwear with what pre-radiaiton you would have considered an innocent fart.
