Prostrate surgically removed (diVinci) on 1/22/2015. Catheter removed 2/4/2015. I have lost my urine stream. Is his normal? Will it eventually return?

It took mine maybe a couple of weeks after the cath removal to become somewhat "normal", then cleared up all together eventually. Hang in there...

Welcome to the forum.
So, as I understand it you can pee OK but are disappointed with the force of your stream (You have a new tendency to dribble). Is that right?

K, mine was stronger than pre surgery at catheter removal. If you mean you can't urinate at all there is something wrong and you should contact a medical expert. " I've lost my urine stream" is a bit ambiguous I'm afraid. Welcome to the Forum!

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I am urinating o.k. Problem is it more in the form of a "sprinkle" rather than a stream. I am currently squatting to pee like a girl versus standing up and spraying the toilet seat.
My next door neighbor who had this same surgery 7 years ago at Duke is still "leaking" but says that is because of other issues. But he says I don't completely void my bladder by squatting versus standing up.
Maybe I am premature in my concern.

K, after surgery there is a lot of swelling going on down there along with some minor bleeding issues. Like you said it may be a bit premature but you are certainly right to ask about
it. Give it some time but keep an eye on things. The main thing is you are voiding.

After surgery my urine stream did all sorts of wierd stuff.
It settled down after a couple of months to become constantly the
same. Can't describe it, maybe its a feeling versus stream, but its ok now.
Give your body time to heal.

Right after my surgery I could probably blast the porcelain of the toilet. Most men usually have improved urine flow after surgery. But be aware it might take a little time to heal first.
If your urine stream is reduced, or narrower, or fan sprayed you might have a urinary stricture. This can occur at the site of the anastomosis where the urethra is sutured back together or can be towards the end of the penis caused from the catheter.

K, be prepared for all kinds of weird things regarding your piss. But you are only 2 days past catheter removal, so it sounds all normal to me.
I had my catheter removed on January 15th,and I remember a very weak stream like you on and off for about
a week. I still get a weak stream on occasion, but more often than not now my stream makes me proud. Like a freaking water cannon. You will likely have that, but you have to give it time.
You might also see some blood (pink) in your urine especially at the end of the stream, that lasted about
3-4 weeks for me, but is now gone in my 5th week. And I have little black flecks in my pee too. That has slowed considerably the last few days. I am told it is blood clots and can be normal for 6-8 weeks.
So be prepared for all kinds of stuff. But any doubts better to check with your Surgeons office, rather than assume. Always better safe than sorry, you have just been through a lot and you have a lot of healing to do, especially on the insides

Way normal. Im over 5 years post op and still get a side spray on occasion. if you have time massage the head and the stem right beneath, t might help. You just need time to heal. You will have other questions as you do, we should be able to help there. I will answer one that will come up. Penile pain not sharp{tho now it could be} can be with you for months post surgery and is usually dull and annoying rather than painful later in your recovery. Mine lasted 8 months.

Doc told me it was related to volume and would return to normal. It did after about
a month. If I try to go "just in case" I get the sprinkler effect. More in bladder clears it up.

Hey K. Wagner.
Welcome to the other side.
I know exactly what you are talking about
. I had the same issue My rifle turned into a blunderbuss. When I stood up to pee I sprayed everywhere.
I have a couple of helpful hints for you
1) Pee while you are taking a shower. (Don't tell your wife.)
2) Leave a red solo cup on the back of the toilet and pee into that while standing then pour it down the sink - and rinse! You'll find it so handy you will find yourself doing it even when your stream returns to normal.
3) If you can, pee outdoors.
It will get better.
Good luck.
Jeff
