Hi Windsor,
Like you I had relatively few health problems until I was diagnosed. Since then a whole set of new problems have developed which I wont go into here.
One thing you need to remember that whatever treatment plan you choose, there will be side effects. They can be mild, moderate or severe depending on your age, overall health and the skill of your treating doctor.
There are proponents for each treatment option on this forum and each one will have a compelling argument why you should select one over the other. I chose surgery when many others on this forum would ask me why did I choose that option when it was already evident that my Pca was metastatic. That's neither here nor there. You have many things in your favor such as your age, overall health, relatively low PSA, and your Gleason score.
Surgery may be all you need and would allow a pathologist to examine your prostate to determine how extensive the cancer truly is, your final Gleason score, the extent of ECE (Extra Capsular Extension) seminal vesicle invasion etc. The side effects of surgery include, ED (erectile dysfunction), incontinence, and penile shrinkage (Yes its real). If you ECE, surgery may not get all of the cancer and you may have a recurrence.
Radiation has it's own benefits and side effects as well. I am not going to address those because there are others that are more experienced in this area.
Last, whatever treatment plan you choose, make sure it's yours and yours alone. Gather as much information as you can so that you can make an informed decision.
Best wishes to you in whatever treatment plan you choose.
