PSA 25 days after surgery

I had Da Vince RALP on Jan 15, 2015.  That, followed by two terrible weeks of 'catheter caused' urinary track blockage/infection which is still healing now but is at least tolerable.

7 days after surgery, pathology report arrived and showed 'margin' in one area.  Doctor said he ended up cauterizing that area a lot anyway and doesn't think it will be a problem.

Gave blood yesterday and got the results today: 25 days after surgery: PSA = <.03.  So, if it's less than .03, is it .02?, or .01?, or 0???  Googling around I saw an article stating that less than .1 actually means 0, is that true?  Is the test simply not that accurate at those low amounts?

That's a great result! Congratulations.

The < sign simply means that limit to which the test method used by the lab can measure to - normally we call that undetectable. Basically you don't have enough PSA floating around your system for the test to detect.

When you get a result of >0.03 it tells you two things that are only slightly related:

1) it tells you that your PSA was lower than the lowest reading that the lab will report.
2) it tells you that the lowest reading the lab will report is 0.03.

Notice that item 2) has nothing to do with you. It just tells you about the lab.

Your PSA was undetectable from a lab that does an ultra-sensitive test. That's really good.

Congratulations! By the way, there is generally a three month waiting period for any PSA to leave your system. So those numbers at 25 days are really good.
