Post IMRT - Painful to sit?

Hi all,
My father had IMRT as his primary treatment (no surgery, still has his prostate).
Long story short, one of the few complaints he has now, about 9 months post treatment, is that it is painful to sit.
Standing, laying down, no problem.
But when he sits, he says it basically feels like he is sitting on a post. I assume this is the feeling from the shrunken/hardened prostate..
I think he did mention it to is doctor a few months ago (who is great), and I -think- the answer was kind of a polite 'it is what it is'.
Any of you experience this? Would he expect the prostate to still shrink more after 9 months?

Thanks. He has had a few DRE's since the end of his treatment. They noted that his prostate was shrinking nicely. Still enlarged, and hard feeling, but no where near what it was prior to treatment (roughly 3 times normal size!).
Hopefully it will subside a bit in time.

It might be due to irritation in the rectum from the radiation. That remains an issue for me almost 10 months out.

Just to follow up, he was also on a fentynal patch which he was trying to get the dose lower and lower.
His doc took him off it a few weeks ago (even though it still hurt to sit), but now he is experiencing pain again going from lower abdomen up his penis. So they are upping his gabapenton a bit to see if it helps, but I assume they'll have to put him back on a low dose of fentanyl (was originally on 200mg of patches, slowly lowered to 25mg over 7-8 months, now off).
His IMRT was to the seminal vesicles, lymph nodes, pelvic bed and prostate. I assume there are a lot of nerves that get hit, and I assume that having the hardened radiated prostate in there can still trigger a lot of these nerves?

Still hoping it will eventually subside. He is roughly 11 months post IMRT treatment..

One of the not-infrequent side-effects of IMRT prostate treatments is hemorrhoid flareups. Might be another thing to check out.

There are a number of treatments for 'rhoids that don't involve narcotics. I used cortisone suppositories during my radiation.

Be sure to talk to your RO if you have any side effects during treatment, including hemorrhoids. Some over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams can reflect the radiation and screw up the treatment plan.
