Reinardo,
Thanks for the reminder..those thoughts are in the back of my head, but sometimes need to be front and center.
Someone in their 80s or 90s might view hormone therapy as a cure, but I have never. Even out of the gate after surgery and adj. radiation I decided not to go with adj hormone therapy because I wanted to know if we "got it all" without the cover of hormone therapy.
And yes I found out 15 months later when the PSA rose to .09 followed by 2 spots on the pelvic bone. At this point my attitude changed to..."if I'm going down, I'm going down swinging..". Decided to go see Dr. Myers...started ADT3, spot radiated those spots, and did all the side items that he generally prescribes (Avodart, Metformin, etc....). Stayed on ADT3 for about 15 months or so...followed by no hormone therapy for 2.5 years...In that time on vacation from hormone therapy my scans were good every 6 months and blood work every month was good, testosterone was normal for nearly all of that time. He also prescribed some out side the box drugs to lenghten my time in remission.
Needless to say my attitude is the same...just need to get away from the comfort of remission and start to get in the mindset of kicking this back again.
It's a bit challenging with me still being hormone sensitive and trying to get some of the newer drugs. I've tried several times to get Provenge and I just can't at this time. I will have a serious talk with Myers about early chemo...my challenge there is that the low volume met guys didn't show much improvement in the CHARRTED trial...but it seems to make logicial sense that earlier is better.
Any suggestions on what protocols you are thinking of?
Thanks,
Jerry
And I (and Dr. Myers) are not afraid to do things other than ADT3. Trust me, he has a lot up his sleave.
