Countdown is at 4 days. Desk is cleared off, outlook out of office message set up, voice mail message put in. Valentines day is tomorrow. I'm hoping for good weather tomorrow so we can take a road trip and a romantic dinner. Maybe visit a winery or two.

I've come to the place where I truly think that walking through the door of the hospital on Tuesday morning will be a relief. At that moment, all the planning, all the anxiety, is over. Phase 2 is over.

I'll see what I can manage, Mr. P. My wife asked me this question, "Since you're supposed to scrub with antibacterial soap on Monday night and again on Tuesday morning, when are we supposed to have sex for the last time? I'm thinking before the Monday night shower. Oh, I'm confident that it will be the last time for 6 weeks, not the LAST time.

Yesterday was a beautiful "clear and cold" day here in southeastern Illinois. Pretty windy too. We went to visit a winery, had a few tastes and bought a couple of glasses, then bought a couple of bottles to bring home. Did a little shopping (my wife needs a new laptop), then dinner and home around 9:30 pm. Just a good day with a woman I've loved since 1976.

This morning, going to go worship at the house of my choice, get some more support from the people there.

Tomorrow morning, take the cat to the boarding house, and in the early afternoon head to St. Louis. Get checked in at the hotel, have a nice dinner (lots of great restaurants in St. Louis), and try to get some sleep. Check in at Barnes at 9:30 Tuesday morning.

halbert. I am pleased to hear that you had a nice day out with your wife yesterday. i am also partial to a bottle of wine myself.

I have you marked on my calender for Tuesday, so you will be in my thoughts.

I am sure that you will do fine and before you know it you will be making your way home again (minus your walnut)

We will all be waiting for your return.

To everyone who held me up over the last 2 days, thank you very much.

Got into the OR about 12 noon Tuesday, woke up in PACU around 4. Finally got to a room about 8 pm. Tuesday night sucked. Period. Could not find a comfortable position..sitting up worked best. Hospital had issues too: their computerized charting system crashed about the time I went into surgery, so everything was being done on paper. Drove the night shift nurses nuts. Dilaudid is wonderful stuff ;)

Urine stopped being pink this morning, nice and clear now.

Cream of wheat for breakfast. Is there anything nastier? Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy for lunch. Slightly better. Told about 2:30 I could go home. Actually got out and on the road about 5. Home now.

Wife is out getting my prescriptions filled. Percocet and the stuff for spasms.

Now, wait for op report, path report, and catheter removal. I'm really looking forward to a shower tomorrow morning. I think I go without shaving until the cath is out. See just how scuffy I can get.

Welcome home!!! I love cream of wheat, it's the best. Hope you are doing great and pain is easing up. Also hoping you have NO bladder spasms. Bob says those are the worst. Glad to see you are on the road to recovery!~Miki~

Good for you halbert! Yes, if you have bladder spasms they can give you something to help. Best to you during recovery.

Like you I was very pleased to get home after my treatment.

Everything sounds good. Apart from the not shaving thing. I cant see how not having a shave has anything to do with a pipe in your dongle. rolleyes

Welcome back Halbert! I would like to emphasise the "stuff for the spasms". For me, the spasms were the worse problem post surgery; once under control everything else was manageable. Here's to a speedy recovery!

Good morning from bitterly cold east central Illinois. Slept OK, got a decent 3-4 hours, then restless for another several hours. Got up around 4 am and moved to the recliner, took a percoset and it knocked me out for another couple hours.

That's going to be a challenge: finding the balance between pain meds and alertness. I think I'll ask my wife to pick up a pill splitter when she goes out later.

The shaving reference is more of a time marker. For today, I don't think I could stand up in front of the mirror long enough to shave without shakes. I don't want to cut myself with a shaky hand. I wonder if we have any oatmeal in the house?

Anyway, so far so good.

I now understand you shaving comment and another good reason to have the trusty old electric razor to hand...... Bzzzzzzzzzzz smilewinkgrin

Good morning Halbert. Hope you found the oatmeal. Careful on the Percocet, you don't want constipation at this point.
One day at a time, till the cath comes out, then the pace to recovery will quicken drastically!

Yep, found the oatmeal. Oatmeal with a handful of craisins thrown in, a pat of butter and a bit of brown sugar. yum!

Peeled off my surgical dressings, I have staples :( Going to ask my lovely wife to set the bench in the bathtub and see about a shower. Walk, walk walk. I got it. It's about 50 steps for the circuit from the recliner into the kitchen and back. 11 below zero outside (F), so walking outside in the snow is probably not going to happen.

I found after my surgeries that for the first few days after, just making the circuit between the recliner to kitchen to bedroom every hour or two was a great help. You don't have to go fast, just move and rest in between.

and, I'd stay indoors - can't imagine anything being that cold. brrrr.

So evening is here on day 2 post surgery. I have my appointment next tuesday for foley and staple removal. I have a feeling that my abdominal pain won't get a lot better until the staples are gone.

However, since the 5 am percoset, I have only taken advil for pain, and been fine. I'll probably take another percoset at bedtime to get me to sleep. Oatmeal for breakfast, a couple of scrambled eggs for lunch, grilled chicken and roasted potatoes for dinner. I might even try a few spoonfuls of frozen yogurt later.

Still passing lots of gas, but nothing real yet. My gut, however, does seem to have woken up.
