Label changes for Zytiga and Zometa

If anyone out there is on these drugs, FDA recently made some label changes.

Effects of Abiraterone on Drug Metabolizing Enzymes
In a CYP2C8 drug-drug interaction trial in healthy subjects, the AUC of pioglitazone (CYP2C8 substrate) was increased by 46% when pioglitazone was given together with a single dose of 1,000 mg abiraterone acetate. Therefore, patients should be monitored closely for signs of toxicity related to a CYP2C8 substrate with a narrow therapeutic index if used concomitantly with ZYTIGA.

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Hypocalcemia: Caution is advised when Zometa is administered with drugs known to cause hypocalcemia, as severe hypocalcemia may develop. Serum calcium should be measured and hypocalcemia must be corrected before initiating Zometa.

I'm on Zytiga also, that's why I'm so keen to learn about it.

The CP2C8 is a liver enzyme that metabolizes (breaks down) certain drugs. Something that inhibits this enzyme could cause problems for people on certain coumadin-based anticoagulants, as well as taxol-based chemo drugs.
