Five year active surveillance biopsy report

Just got back from discussing my last biopsy test results with the doc. He said there was a 1% increase over the five years and it's virtually unchanged. The biopsy procedure is the stuff of nightmares. I hate it! I get to do it again in five years! :)

Exactly! If that Bx is that hard on you, I used to give gen anesthesia or deep sedation for Bxs for guys that ust couldn't consider local only, and it was offered to me if i felt I needed it. I did straight local, and I guess he gave me a pretty good one as it was not too bad, but getting over it was no fun.

Still, regardless, man oh man you have it made! A Bx every 5 years vs any of the other treatments? If it had been an option for me, sign me up!

32 cores! I hope you were fully anesthetized for that saturation biopsy, transperineal, I hope. Perhaps in 5 years you can get an mpMRI-targeted 12 core biopsy (with periprostatic nerve block) instead.

oooh baby! 32 cores?? yikes....how close together are those core samples on a 30cc or so prostate with a 16g biopsy needle ? Sheesh ...can you say MRI? I hope so..especially in 5 more years.

This work by my colleague Laurie Klotz is very compelling. The evidence about active surveillance is compelling. Of over 10,000 truly defined Gleason 3+3 guys only 2 over a couple decades ever progressed to metastatic disease. You look in very good hands and very good shape.
