Writing in verse
Is hard to do
To say what I mean
while making it rhyme, too.

I'm not sure why, but I'm reminded of a famous non-limerick by W.S. Gilbert:

There once was a man from St. Bees
Who was stung on the arm by a wasp
When they asked "does it hurt"
He replied "no it doesn't"
But I'm so glad it wasn't a hornet.

Dear Peter
not all poetry must rhyme
some modern poetic singers would argue against meter
so let your verse free
and simply express what is in your heart.

Again, Im glad I did not make that particular rhyme.

Having said that, I understand CL's intent and Gl's discontent,as I am sure they do each others…I mean to celebrate life is to have a good life and the reverse…as there verse and monikers…like quantum particles, pro and con, swap roles in the same way and sometimes our view must be seen to be observed. As Keats said words must, come as naturally as leaves from a Bud,{tribute} somewhat paraphrased. This I do know by definition{ mine, bien entendu} the highest poetry is our own lives

to suspect most free verse
is simply prose
reformed
with line breaks wherever
a fledgeling writer
or Bill Shatner
might be tempted to put a comma.

I need
the mnemonic hook
of rhyme
and meter
to hold a poem in my head
long enough to admire it
as a whole
let alone
remember it.
