Well I know I have not been around for a few weeks now, but some major home renovations have been keeping me very busy. So please forgive me for my absence.

Still not finished and it could now be the end of May before I am able to spend some quality time here.

The reason I thought I would drop in is that at the beginning of March I woke in the morning and both my elbows were very painful. The left was much worse than the right and even lifting a coffee cup caused a great deal of pain. I have done nothing to cause this sudden pain and have no idea of the cause. Almost two months on the pain is still there, although not as bad as it was. First thing in the mornings it is pretty bad, but as the day progresses it becomes less of a problem.

The thing that has got me concerned is that it is not the soft part of the elbow that is painful, but the elbow bone itself and I am worried it could be caused by bone mets. Have any of you guys who have suffered with bone mets had elbow pain as I describe?

When I went for my follow up appointment after my LDR Brachy I mentioned it to the consultant and he said he had doubt that the cause of the pain was due to bone mets. Before my LDR my PSA was 6.4 and now it is 4.2 and said as my PSA was dropping he could not see that I had bone mets.

Anyway I thought I would throw the question out and see what comes back. I have a hospital appointment booked for next month and hopefully then I will find out the cause. Just that right now I have become very concerned.

Hope all you guys and girls are doing well. Hopefully I will be able to catch up with all the news when I am able to get back here more regular next month.

My current elbow pain is from bursitis and with your remodeling I wonder if that could be causing the pain. My mets have been on the spine and ribs.

Highly unlike it's related to PC or bone mets. If your PSA was higher, say 100, I might think you should see someone. You don't have enough to give you anything other than an interesting number to report.

More than likely it has do with the "A" thing - age. A touch of arthritis, tendonitis or similar.

Do see a doctor about it, but someone who specializes in elbows, not prostates.

Thanks for your reply Michael.

I know nothing about the cause of bursitis, but have done nothing out of the norm to cause my elbow pain. All my building work is being done by others and all I do each day is project manage the whole thing. I just order supply's for them and clean through each evening so it is ready for the next day. I have certainly done nothing strenuous that I am aware of. If I had I am sure the pain would be gone after almost two months.

Yep. My consultant told me that bone mets normally give problems with the pelvic area, spine and ribs. But did not think my painful elbows were caused by mets.

This started out of the blue. I went to bed and woke in the morning with very painful elbows. That was almost two months ago.

My appointment next month is with a specialist in bones and joints. So hopefully he will be able to clear the mystery up for me.

I agree with your consultant. PC typically spreads first to bones closeby - pelvis and spine. It rarely goes to joints, like elbows, until very late stages, if then. Arthritis often occurs as we age.

It is not bone mets period. I have been getting random bouts of elbow pain sharp pain for the the past 10 years or so. I also get them randomly at the rotator cuff. At the present time I have them at the rotator cuff and have to be satisfied with 30lbs total for shoulder presses. Many reps to compensate for less weight. I have never seen a doctor for it be cause I have talked to many men my age who also get it randomly. Call it bursitis, arthritis, it is definely an inflammation of some sort. My personal hunch is that it does come with age and more importantly stress. Not over exercise stress in the sense of muscle stress. But fatigue stress. I know I over exercize and am trying cutback with some success. The days leading up to my prostectemy, I was under a lot of personal stress especially the 3 days leading up to it. We ahd traveled to sea fm ogg, had to find a apt, meet the surgeon and a major surgery was about to happen. My left elbow got as big as medium orange,as red as an apple and when it grazed anything it fell like a burn. I told my surgeon about it he sloughed it off as nerves. The odd thing is that i had been on an inflammatory for the preceding week and thru out the 1st 2 weeks of recovery. We all know what it is, I just can't remember. Begins with a C one dose/24hrs and was prescribed ,not OTC. It resolved itself during the 1st week postop. I still get it at the elbows randomly but not as bad. My stress comes from exercise and a very high-strung mind. Right now all I take is 2 aleve even morning, which does little for it but As I said it is not a big deal. The alive is for chronic sciatica which comes from my sup surfing, which I will not stop.There is tremendous s torque at my waist when I surf, as I like to take the wave from the lip and take it as I approach the wave head on with a quick and powerful turn using the paddle and a twisting motion at my hip to snap the board around at with nose to the shore and one last stroke to take it. Such fun, such fun.some folks just hang out outside the break nose to the shore and paddle like heck to catch it. I see em coming judge whether they have it If they falter am all ready as I can read it whip it around with a one paddle push. Oh yea, definetly 100% evidence of fame. Such a rush... the drop into the wave. Im starting to get the paddle twist for the left cutback turn and back to the right as the face of the wave comes and goes as Im surfing it. Er ah I got carried away. Any way Casper555, one the remodel is done, your will get the elbows back.

Not bone mets. But you've already been told that by a lot of guys more knowledgeable than I am.

It sounds like something systemic, with both elbows hurting, but not home Mets. I vote arthritis.

I should have mentioned that I have had both elbows hurt at the same time as well as both rotor cuffs. the pre surgery elbow was a loner tho. I also think some type of arthritis and still have a "hunch" that nervous type stress can flare up arthritis that is intermittently dormant. I also a have a hunch there may be studies that point a light that way. If anyone finds one and I am correct, as you know, do not advise me as it will just go to my head with a subtle annoyance being released. If I am incorrect I have little doubt I will be advised, unless of course I just checkmated that possibility with my preceding sentence. Hey I have to live with myself 24/7…. WHAT! …tink easy brah..no brah…no easy..stay hard brah…stay hard awreddy.

Good to see you back! I have RA, and what you have does sound suspiciously arthritic. I have pain a lot similar to Logos...I think. From the parts of his thread I could decipher (God bless your wife Logos), the one thing I totally agree with is the daily dose of Aleve for inflammation. Does wonders! Could also have nasty stomach and liver SEs (disclaimer, like in the commercials, lol). For grins n giggles you might ask for a sedrate added to your next blood panel to see how much inflammation, but skip the anti inflammatory med that would mask the true picture.
Good luck with remodel. Those projects tend to add enough stress to cause pain in the arse and elsewhere.
PS...tell us all what Logos said...you seem to have the magic decoder ring...teehee.

CL the portions of the thread relating to the pain, was clear I thought, but where I digress into my play could confuse. Actually, it was just a play by play of play. Not to be understood... but to enjoy the joy of the boy. Bet you enjoyed that!! My wife is a saint, as you so wisely perceive… Your love{spouse} has a pretty nice smile next to him, as well….

Logo. Your comments have given me a great deal to think about. I had not even given it a thought that stress could be the problem! Giving what you have said more thought I am wondering if that could be the cause. When this problem started the beginning of March I was right at the critical stage of my restoration project. Being told things by my architect things I did not want to hear and this caused me some very sleepless nights. Then I just woke up one morning and there it was. Even lifting a coffee cup caused a great deal of pain and just brushing against something also resulted in the same thing. Visibly though there is nothing to see. No redness of inflammation. Just sharp pain in the bone of both elbows. Strong pain killers and embrocation rubs had no effect either. Although the pain is no longer as strong now it is still there, especially first thing in the mornings. I have never had elbow pain before now. Am I still stressed? Yes, but not as much as I was two months ago. I am going to take on board what you have said (not a surf board) and see if lowering my stress levels will help.

I just love the way you describe your passion for surfing. You make me feel very envious of how lucky you are to live in a part of the world that allows you to do that. I have never had the chance to visit your part of the world, but spent some time in Western Australia a few years back and had a very enjoyable time watching the surfer dudes down at Surfers Point Prevelly Margeret River which offers up some crazy big waves. Not for the faint of heart! Also some of the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen.

Actually your typo could be closer to the truth than you intended. That is after reading what logo had to say “home mets” could be the cause of my problems LoL

All the main work is now complete, pheew!! Just the finishing off to be completed, but come tomorrow night that will be on hold, because I will be going on a well earned vacation with my son......I cant wait. Hopefully the break will help with my elbow pain. I will most certainly drop in and post an update on my return.

P.S. You did not mention my news regarding my latest PSA reading. I am in the Zero+4.2 club. Next blood draw is in August. Absolutely zero side effects apart from the pee frequency at night, but that is improving as time goes on.

Hi Beth. Thanks for taking the time to post a reply. With all this home renovation work going on I am afraid I have been out of the loop on all the news from here this past couple of months. I do hope that Gary is responding well to his new pilot treatment. You certainly both deserve a break from this whole PC nightmare that you are enduring.

Although I have suffered with arthritic pain in both wrists for many years now I feel sure it is not that. When I do get pain in my wrists it does not last longer than a couple of weeks max. This has been going on for almost two months now. I know nothing about Aleve, but will certainly check it out. I have an appointment booked at the hospital for next month specifically for this problem. I would assume they will take a blood test during that visit, but will ask about what you have suggested. I don’t take anything for the pain. I gave that up weeks ago when everything I tried failed.

There is no mystery to understanding logos posts. A few glasses of your favourite tipple beforehand does the trick. It may blur the keyboard a little and cast a mist over your screen, but his posts then magically translate themselves and jump out from the screen with great clarity. Just like putting on a pair of those 3D glasses when watching a movie. I love logo for his posts, because it gives me an excuse to raid the drinks cabinet before reading them LoL

Ask your doctor if you can take Celebrex. Unless you have heart disease, it is among the safest and most effective of the anti-inflammatory/pain meds.

Thanks Tall Allen for that bit of advice. I will certainly do that when I see him. I don't have any heart problems that I am aware of. I have tried just about everything else, so hopefully that may do the trick.

I am just finishing packing before turning in for the night. Then at 6.am we are off on our European tour turn I will check in here on my return and give an update on my elbow pain.

Thanks to all you guys that responded to my panic post. Somehow I had an idea it was not bone mets, but I have taken great comfort from having it confirmed.

Casper, you probably won't get this til you get back from your holiday, but by then you will hopefully be better because you took a week to de-stress.
Logos, at the risk of a head explosion and messing your keyboard and monitor with brain matter, imo, YES to the stress for RA symptoms. I am convinced beyond doubt that stress caused my RA. (A mind is a terrible thing)!
Check out the RA thread about whether foods triggers flares. Most everyone replied that stress was primary trigger.
