On August 6th I had my prostate removed. One week later I had my catheter removed. Three days later I ended up in the ER in severe pain. They ran a cat scan and found a pocket of what they believed to be infection. The next morning my surgeon came in a said he disagreed. He believed it to be a pocket of urine that was outside of the bladder. It was making pressure in my scrotum and groin area. He said the body should eventually absorb it. I was sent home on more pain medicine. On August 22nd I was back in the ER. The pain was out of control again. They thought I was having bladder spasms due to the catheter.I felt like my pain had nothing to do with my surgery other then this pocket putting pressure on my scrotum. They added valium, and I was to continue with my hydrocodone. At 3 weeks from my surgery I had a cystagram that showed I had minimal leakage. He said the body should automatically absorb. Yet, he decided to hold off on removing the catheter due to the discomfort I was still having from the pocket putting pressure on me. He said he would leave it for two more weeks and hopefully I would improve. Which I definitely have improved. I am off the valium and cut my hydrocodone in half. I am probably at a 2 or 3 discomfort level. Today at 5 weeks from my surgery they did the test that showed I no longer have leakage at the urethra. It's healed! So he removed the catheter. Yet, he said the cat scan still shows the pocket. Which now he believes is hematoma, not urine. He said I should keep feeling better. Has anyone ever a hematoma following prostate removal?
