Some researchers in Japan noticed that in post-prostatectomy patients with negative surgical margins, 92% were recurrence-free after 5 years if they were blood type O vs.71% if they were blood type A. The association wasn't as strong with positive surgical margins, which seemed to confound the results.
Associations between ABO blood groups and biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy. In Japan, type O is 30% of the population, and type A is 40%. (30% type B or AB)
In the US and Europe, type O is about
44% of the population, and type A is 42%. (14% type B or AB)
I was just curious whether type A is overrepresented among those of us who've had a recurrence. (Ignore Rh factor)
Probably just one of those meaningless associations.
