Age: 58 (wife/small children)
PSA: 4.6 (5/2014), 17 (5/2015)
MRI last week (5/22/15) revealed 2 lesions that were "clinically significant."
Appointments scheduled next week with a urologic oncologist at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC.
Consultation on 6/9/15
Biopsy on 6/12/15
Reading these boards for last few weeks. Clearly, many people here with considerable experience and knowledge.
Ideas. Thoughts. Advice.

Sorry you have to be here, but it's a great resource and a supportive group.
Relax (if you can) until anything is proven to be positive. Many things besides PCA can cause PSA to rise. Sounds like you have the next steps planned out. Get healthy and ready in case you do need to pursue treatment.

Sounds like you're taking all the right steps. Were the lesions in the prostate?

I am going to assume that you were checked for prostatitis since that could also account for a high PSA. Sounds like you do need the biopsy to find out what is going on. Let us know what the results are.

For now, you're stuck in that horrible place where you know something isn't right, but you don't have enough information to act. Start learning about this PC thing. Have you checked out the sticky threads at the top of the forum? Best place to start.

I won't say much else other than, even if the worst is found, you've got every hope of beating this thing or at least keeping it at bay for many, many years. It won't be fun and normal is going to change, but you'll be telling stories about this for decades.

Hang in there and keep us updated on your progress,

Welcome Earl, I hope you are just passing through. Certainly, the results of the MRI increase the chance of a positive biopsy, but with that said, it's certainly not a foregone conclusion.

And as others have said, even if it is positive, this is a highly treatable disease, and is often curable, and when not, can be kept in remission for many many years.

Should it come back positive, you are at a good place, at NYU.

Waiting is the toughest part, but hang in there till you get the biopsy results

Andrew, yes, the lesions were found in the prostate.

I will continue to keep you apprised of my progress.

Then you're on track for the biopsy. What you need to know now is what's in those lesions.

It's a waiting game for a bit.

I hope you will go for the MRI guided biopsy to target the lesions and not the old random biopsy which in my opinion is far too hit & miss!

Earl,

I am the same age as you and I was treated at NYU almost 4 years ago. You are at a great place, so hopefully that will give you some comfort. Did NYU do your MRI? Was it a multi parametric MRI? You do not mention any EPE on the MRI report, which is good.

I had a radical prostatectomy done by Dr. Lepor at NYU. He's one of the best.

Aussie, yes, I am doing the guided MRI biopsy.

FrackMe, yes, NYU did my multi parametric MRI. And yes, I'm seeing Dr. Lepor next week.

Dr Lepor has a great rep, he is very well respected. I believe he only does open though, not robotic. Not that one is better than the other. Not sure about the ROs at NYU, if you speak to a radiation oncologist, which you should, for another point of view, recommend Dr Zelefsky at MSKCC
