Another injection question

So DH hasn't been doing much penile rehab for the last 5 weeks what with his swollen leg and unrelenting pain from lymphedema. I 'm very worried about atrophy. He has already lost so much size from the surgery I'm afraid there will be nothing left when we hopefully get a pain free erection.

I finally got his ED doc to prescribe bimix. But DH has now told me another reason he doesn't like to do the injections. He says it is very hard to depress the plunger. Sometimes it's so hard he's afraid he will break the needle. I thought it was supposed to go in fairly easily. The trimix has been working well so obviously it's ending up in the right place

It's very hard to get him to talk to me about it, so I'm not sure exactly what he's doing . He says he's following all the directions carefully. Tried plumping beforehand too.

What might he be doing wrong? I would really appreciate any suggestions of what should he try.

On a more interesting note, while going down on him the other night, much to my surprise, he developed some very definite firmness! At first I had happy fantasies of him regaining full erections against all the odds with his non nerve sparing surgery, and then I remembered; he is undergoing SRT currently. oh well. .... back to the difficulty with injection issue. Advice please?

Hi Sophie- What size needle is he using...sometimes the needle is just not quite long enough and you just push a little harder on the syringe housing and the plundger goes down very easily.

I have had this happen to me and it is a matter of needle depth that is usually the issue.

Did they change the needle gauge, or maybe a different pharmacy providing the syringes?

A 27 gauge needle is harder and more painful to use than a 30 gauge.

My compounding pharmacy gives me syringes with a 27ga needle. That is used to load the syringe from the vial. Then I remove that huge and now dull needle, and replace it with a fresh 30ga for the shot itself. A bit more trouble, but much less pain.

And pain may be the cause of his complaints, reworded for you.

Have you tried injecting for him? My guy just has a difficulty with needles in general and the though of injecting just is too much. I went with him to the ED doc and had them show me how to do it and now, that's my job. He just looks away.....

My husband has very close to the same stats as your guy. (Except mine had one lymph node positive & SV+). Mine didn't want to talk about ANY of it AT ALL, at first. I had to learn to leave it alone and let him talk to me if/when he wanted to. I made offers, but let it go if he said no. It's been hard because it's not in my nature to let it go, and after 31 years of marriage, I kind of feel like I also have a vested interest in the outcome of all this.

Maybe if you just make the offer and then let him think about it, he might come around. It's got to be difficult for our guys to deal with all this, much less talk about it.

Sophie, I have been injecting about 3 years now. For the first 28 months, I was having no problems. However about 6 months ago, I started having the same problem as your DH. It was very hard to press the plunger. I tried backing off a little a couple of times and the plunger was a little easier, but it felt like I was injecting liquid fire and got zero results. I stopped treatment for a while to consider my options. For the last few months, I have developed a new technique which seems to be working for me. I lay that puppy over on it's side to inject now and have not had the stuck plunger. I bought too many syringes and have had them for a while. I also noticed that when loading the medicine, the plunger seemed to stick, so now before I load, I will work the plunger up and down to loosen it up. Hope this helps.

Startech .. layin it down to either side is the only way I have ever done the shot.. almost a thousand shots now and never a miss ...

Definitely easier that way .. as long as no stomach in the way. An awful lot of big tummies out there these days tho so not a technique that works for everyone I suppose.
