Adrastea, I agree with the others, there is every reason to believe Eriks PC could be managed for a very long time with reasonable quality of life, from everything I've seen here with G9s, even advanced. We have a member here who was diagnosed with a PSA of 3200 with evidence of bone mets, widespread. I believe he was 42 years old at the time and is 51 or 52 now, and living life. So don't stop fighting, and don't let Erik become resolute in pessimism, which would be understandable if he did.
This is a bump in the road. Yeah, a really big one, just take one day at a time, and you will both slowly adjust to the new normal.
Best of luck on this journey.
Adrastea, I thought Prato's post was wonderful so I just wanted to replay it. You guys should have lots of hope; PCa treatments have come a long way in recent years.
Your RO sounds like a total a**-hole; please forgive my language. You are entitled to respectful treatment. I understand that you feel trapped with him but I suspect if you put your foot down you WILL be able to see a different RO.
Re prostate oncologists, you don't need to camp out for weeks at a cancer center to be treated by excellent doctors. Many men on this site travel to see these oncologists only occasionally and their treatment is managed over the distance. In Dr. Scholz', "Invasion of the Prostate Snatchers" he has an appendix listing some medical oncologists who have a major interest in prostate cancer. Two of these are in Ann Arbor, Dr. Maha Hussain and Dr. Kenneth Pienta. I know that at least one of our members, Compiler (Mel) has been treated by Dr. Hussain at one time. Mel's email address is available via the envelope on the left of any of his posts and I'm confident that if you email him he will be
open about
his experience with Dr. Hussain.
Time for you and Erik to go into warrior mode. You found us late in your process but NOT TOO LATE. There are many, many men here who have been in your (his) shoes and have experience that can help you. We all are also here for support. TallAllen is arguably the smartest guy on our forum when it comes to our cancer. I'm also confident you can email him for specific advice.
