First PSA result after Brachy only

I never expected this result! I went to see my Urologist for my first PSA reading after my 4/3/15 seed implant. Immediately upon entering, he said "what do you guess your results are"? I said maybe Four. He said "no and waited".....what kind of game was this I thought. I was actually hedging lower than I had hoped for.

For the second time I offered a different number - Five! And again he said no. I was starting to worry a bit. And, I was starting to get pissed. But when he said 0.9 - I was onto his game.
He swung the monitor around to give me the eye ball test when I said are you sure those are my results. He said, "fantastic" and I whispered "Whoa!".

Whoa - I was shocked out of my chair. I'm so happy and so is my wife and family. I hope this keeps going down but for now "WHOA!". I have many of the same fears as everyone. I hope this does not offend but I needed to share some some good news.

Craig, congratulations! This is very, very good news and we share your joy. Looks like you are well on your way to a cure. Hope your side effects are minimal as well.

It happened that way for my brother - PSA dropped like a rock.

Awesome news and downward trend in the future. Can you share with us the need for the 4 unstranded seeds. I have never seen this combination before.

great news! one thing to remember is you could get a spike or up and down readings -- look at mine -- but that's just a part of this particular treatment.

I called my RO and asked about the single seed placement. In my case, they used these four additional unstanded seed at the edges of my gland. They didn't look into my file to tell me exactly where but on the outer edge.

They said they normally get between 2 to 6 extra seeds based upon their original plan placement. Then when they are delivered and all the stranded ones are implanted they observe the prostate using a fluoroscope to see how the gland and seeds are aligned according to their original plan.

They can take pictures from various angles of the prostate and the see the standed seeds that have been implanted. They compare to the original plan map and then determine (so they calculate something) if there is some need for additional coverage. They use these single unstanded seeds to fill in those spot(s). They indicated this is normally near the outer edge of the gland where the strand might not be close enough to gland's edge. This must leave them some margin to cover areas they see where there is not enough coverage or that might warrant more coverage based upon their placement (error) from the original plan which might be offset slightly. They use this fluoroscope to allow for a closer examination of the prostate from various angles and the RO positions these singles in spots he deems is warranted.

CONGRATS Craig! And I'm not the least bit surprised, sounds like your doc is really on top of the LDR BT process. My PSA also dropped like a rock and continues to stay down there, so again congrats and here's to tons more of the same.
